your mp3 is an upscaled 64kbps piece of crap and the timing is stupid enough to make small children wet their beds in shame; even i have been vanquished by the sheer fuckwthetthf
SB pulses a bit fast.

You use two soft finishes for the thump sounds, a timing-sectioned-in normal+hitfinish on a slightly lower volume works better imo

01:03:972 (4,1) - oh hey, you've got a pretty good expanding jump pattern going on h- what the fuck is that next note doing way the hell over there?
01:12:925 (3,4) - i'd have felt better if you had had two stacked double notes than this silly thing
01:13:251 (1) - at least TRY to blanket it

Maybe I'm better than i thot? or maybe using z/x and mouse is easy for this section or something? I look down on myself a lot when playing this game D:, but idk. Honestly, speaking, I actually don't find it that hard (unless i'm really tired) unlike some other things i've played, soemtimes i miss a stream, and i get close to failing but then i get back on track by not missing the other notes lol. I will look more into this as I know that there have been multiple complaints about that section. when I think of something, I will see what i can do about it.

I really liked the second set of lyrics too. I just wish there were more lyrics and less instrumentals, which is incidentally why I cut it- I felt that I would probably end up mapping the same pattern again and again to cover the long instrumental section and didn't feel it would turn out well.

Also, about (short ver.)... I talked to a few people in #modhelp and they said that it was optional, so I'll leave it out for now.

Right. I asked around about this on #modhelp too, and the James2250 said silencing slidertick was acceptable for a short time, so I counted the start of the song, before vocals, to be short enough. And sliderslide is silenced only for that portion as well.

I think part of it is the effect you get from mapping something yourself- it seems so much easier when you play through it because you know where every beat is supposed to fall, and it makes sense in your head. I get the same effect too, which is why I always worry my Easy and Normal difficulties are too challenging- they feel really, really easy to me, but I'm afraid for everyone else they just don't make intuitive sense.

Thanks for the Taiko diff! I can't ascertain its quality because I don't play Taiko, but I'm sure it's awesome. Also, I changed the lead-in to 2000 and disabled the countdown, to be consistent with the other diffs. And now I think I'm supposed to make/find a BG for this...

Thanks for your work! I'm a bit confused about what you mean here, though... what's a "btm part" of Taiko?
And I should/shouldn't add the BG? The SB doesn't work well with it, so I'd like to disable it for the Taiko diff but I'm not sure how to do that.
(Not a taiko player, so I don't understand this stuff orz)

Oh and one more minor thing, could you change the title to "Field of Dreams" instead of "Field of Dream", to match the title?

00:13:997 (6) - ^ I suggest shortening the slider to the red tick and adding a circle where the slider end used to be. Stack the three circles at 112/100. Plays much better!
00:16:438 (3) - I would go as far as calling this "wrong". There is nothing you can map with this slider ending here. You should delete (4) and place the slider ending there and maybe stack the remaining circle with the ending point (to keep the actual pattern intact)
00:17:090 (6) - ^ but delete (7) obviously
00:17:741 (9) - ^ and delete (10)
Instead of the three last points, you could instead silence the slider endings completely. Still wont play as good as changing it (and you already mapped the same part correctly at 00:05:694 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8))
00:19:043 (1,2,3,4) - using this kind of jump after the slider is a bad (and wrong) idea. There is no indicator as the jump starts mid-combo and in the middle of a completely smoth and consistent piano-part. Turn the slider into 2 circles and jump between all 5 circles or keep the slider and get rid of the jumps.
00:20:834 (1) - You missed two piano notes here on the red ticks before and after the circle. This is confusing and makes hitting the circle a pain. I suggest turning the circle into a fitting 1x repeat-slider (from red tick to red tick)

Some really random and unfitting jumps/anti-jumps aside I really liked this one! Spacing is a complete mess in the KIAI-part due to n00bgrid-snapping and the last few seconds have a really "interesting" spacing-change but both can be fixed.

The jumps I've used actually have musically supported reasons to do so, but they are kinda subtle reasons; they aren't just random jumps lol. Also, this is AR 9, so the jumps shouldn't be very hard to read imo.

None implemented. I think the combos are fine- 11 isn't really that bad, and I like the combos to follow the lyrics. The new notes were previously suggested- I think it plays okay with them, but I wanted to follow the vocals without. I'll consider it, but not added for now.

Nifty workaround, I'll probably be using that in the future. Though really, the submitter shouldn't wipe out current formatting and attachments IMO.

Hey! Here, some mods! I will also write a suggestion section afterwards, however they will be quite honest. If you find them negative, don't worry about it, they are just suggestions and my opinions, and don't think I am enforcing them or anything. They will be in the spoilerbox after the mod.

[Winber1's Insane]:
  1. Missing wmfchris in tags.
  2. Difficulty: Reduce AR by 1 and increase OD by 1. This map plays better with AR8 to me (even though I had no problems with AR9 but it doesn't fit) and having this low OD just doesn't fit the mapping style. I would understand if you had streams, but you don't.
  3. 00:10:415 (2) - Swap to normal hitsound set for this note, could add finish on top of it as well.
  4. 00:20:671 - Would be nice to add a note here. After following the melody for so long and you stop here gives off a feeling you missed something. If you add the note, add one at 00:20:996 as well.
  5. 00:31:578 (1) - Finish at the start of the slider.
  6. 01:03:484 (1) - This new combo is completely unnecessary. It's more consistent without it as well. You should remove it.
  7. 01:04:786 (1) - ^

    Nice and short map but some stuff just bothers me. Don't get me wrong, it's not wrong to map like this but certain stuff is really a turn off for me.

    First of all I really don't like how you used whistles. They feel completely random. I suggest you use whistles on the notes which follow the voice explicitly, because you're mapping the melody along with the voice, so it won't sound wrong.
    This also concerns some finishes. You added them because you felt they were okay, which they are I suppose, but certain key parts which would really call for one are missed. You have an example of this in the mod section of the post.

    I will add a list of certain spots where you should add notes, because when you follow the melody and the voice some spots just seem completely empty:
    00:37:112 - melody
    00:39:066 - melody

    I don't like the spinner at 00:39:554 (1). I think you should end it at 00:41:345 with a soft set hitsound and map a note @00:39:554 instead.

    Then we have 01:05:437 (1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2) - I don't like the combo placements because of the hp drain. I like to balance the difficulties alot, and this brings back HP too fast. Not a big deal and it's alright to map like this especially given the distances, but it doesn't look confusing without it and concerning the HP drain level it would look better without it (what I mean here is that you keep the 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 pattern).

    And lastly, the whole map is mapped in 1/2! You have some triplets at the start because melody goes like that, but the map could be ALOT more interesting with a stream at some point. This is 185ish BPM song and stream of that level is hittable by almost anyone who can play insane diffs. 01:21:065 - this looks like a perfect spot for a stream. The background drum builds up a little and having a stream (with a kicker slider I suppose, if you don't like full streams) here just seems quite right.
[Hard]:
  1. Reduce OD1. OD8 is ridiculous for "hard" (it's questionable when to use it in insanes as well). This also reduces the score to a more "right" level (2.5m opposed to 3.1m when Insane has 2.75m~)
  2. 01:05:274 (10) - Listening to music tells me this is a good spot for a new combo. Remove NC from next note.
  3. 01:10:484 (10) - ^
  4. Thoughts and suggestions
    A really clean map, nothing much to say. Slightly hard for a "hard" but I guess that's fine cause it plays nicely and everything has low spacing. The only suggestion is about the last note, why not make it a jump? Doesn't have to be extreme, but place is somewhere towards the middle of the map or something, just to have a more epic feel as an end rather than a distance snapped note.

    Also read the suggestion @Insane about the spinner.
[Wmf's Taiko]:
  1. Don't know much about taiko, but I think all difficulty settings should be in the middle (having a value of 5). You currently have everything at 6 apart from circle size which is 3.
[Normal]:
  1. Difficulty: due to density of the notes @timeline I suggest using circle size 1.
  2. 00:23:601 - Missing a note here to follow the vocals. Make a slider that ends at the slider start @00:23:764. Also, to follow the vocals more accurately, add a note at 00:24:089 as well, and also make it a slider which ends at the slider end @00:24:252.
  3. 00:34:019 - ^ same as above with just different timeline locations.
  4. 00:51:600 (5) - Don't think this is a good spot for a finish. Consider removing it.
[Easy]:
  1. 00:06:020 (1,2) - Generally it's not a good idea to have circles on red ticks in easy diff, without something that tells you otherwise. I suggest making a slider out of these two, because people who are able to play easy diffs only won't 300 these for a long time.
  2. 00:08:787 (4) - Why not start this slider at 00:08:625 instead? Melody starts at this spot and you're already mapping on red ticks in this section.
  3. 00:16:438 (1,2) - Same as 00:06:020.
  4. 00:19:206 (4) - Same as 00:08:787.
  5. 00:31:578 (1) - Finish at the start of the slider.
  6. 01:12:600 (3) - Clap is fine here, but add finish to it as well (at the slider end).
There. A lengthy post, hopefully you don't mind (but then again I always tend to write essay as mod posts ;_;).

    Thanks for the compliment. About the end- there actually used to be a jump there until somebody complained. I think having one there would be more epic, but it might also be confusing because almost everything up to that last point would have followed distance spacing, and if it were me I'd be really, really annoyed to play through a map only to miss the very last note because of an unexpected jump.
    Also read the suggestion @Insane about the spinner. I'll keep it as is for now.

As for SB star, I have no idea. If you want to include the stars in the flash, just edit the image to include the stars. If you want to put in some rotating stars or something like that, I can do that, but I don't think that would look very good.

Feel free to put CS and AR at highest rate if you want (though for myself I won't put them at 10 just because there's always some diff harder than my taiko then it's not a must to put it at last)

But I need OD 6 :3 because OD reflects the difficulty of diff so it should fit the overall hardness of the song, putting OD5 on every taiko map is just like putting OD 5 in an insane diff. : <

Force & Styles - Field of Dreams (Short Ver.)

Note: This is my first time modding anything, so my modding style might be different than others. Also, I'm not an Insane player, so my mods for that might not be relevant at all.

General:
Why haven't you replaced all the hitsounds in the folder? The fact that you replaced the slider slide/tick means you have an idea what you want the song to sound like, but as a modder I can't tell.

Easy:
00:02:276 (3) - This slider feels like it should end at 00:02:764, but you have the emphasis on beat 4 with all difficulties--you feel that five-note sequence (beat 2.5-4.5) as "pah-BOOM-pah-BOOM-pah" and I feel it as "pah-BOOM-pah-pah-BOOM"

00:08:787 (5) - All of these notes seem the same strength (other than the end), so it feels like the slider should cover all of them--this may be a necessary concession to Easy though (even though it feels like a harder than average easy--not that that's a bad thing since you don't have a normal).

00:12:694 (4) - Same as 00:02:276--though oddly it feels a bit less clashing to me here :/

00:19:206 (5) - Same as 00:08:787.

00:39:391 (1) - I don't like having such a long spinner mid-song in an easy--you could end it on 00:41:345 and put a circle on 00:41:996.

01:23:018 (3) - Why is the last beat a new combo on every difficulty except this one? I'm not sure how best to remedy it--maybe just use three circles instead?

Hard:
00:02:602 (4) - This isn't nearly as bad as the it is on Easy, since you're actually doing stuff on that note--I'd still stack it to hit both notes if you decide to change the emphasis on that string.

00:30:926 (3) - There should be a hitsound at the start of the slider to emphasize the switch in polarity (red to white)--I'm trying a clap and it works a bit better.

00:39:391 (7,1) - This feels like an easier hard to me, so I don't like having a note so close in front of the spinner--then again, I'm not sure how to fix it (since the climax of the phrase is on the downbeat, so you don't really want to put the spinner there).

Insane (see note above):
General: This map doesn't feel like a real insane to me--the majority of the map feels like a fast hard with some insane elements thrown in just to make it insane. If I was mapping this set, I would tone down your hard a bit to make it your normal, then tone this down by removing all the insane elements to make it a (admittedly harder than average) hard, and leaving the other insane as is. I'd do this by lowering some of the difficulty settings in both and removing a lot of the passing notes (notes not really connected to the vocals/melody, but just to fill in some of the dead spaces) in Insane, but since I have a feeling you wouldn't do this, I'll leave the specifics out unless you ask.

00:20:834 (1,2) - The transition from melody to vocals here feels really awkward, especially since the next part of the combo doesn't feel connected to the vocals (00:21:810 (5) isn't in the vocals but is a circle, while 00:21:973 (6) misses a vocal). If you're keeping this insane I'd add circles on 00:20:671 and 00:20:996 (leaving hit sounds
as is to differentiate the vocals).

00:21:810 (5,6) - 5 feels even more out of place if you do the other mod, and if you remove that, the slider emphasizes "in" most prominently, which doesn't deserve much stress at all--6 could be replaced with 3 circles and it should sound much better.

00:39:066 (10,11) - These passing notes really distract from the buildup--I'd say remove them, but I don't know how important keeping a constant stream is in an Insane.

01:09:507 (6,7,8) - These circles are fine, but I don't like stacking all three like that--maybe moving 7 to the left (so it's like center-left-center-slider) would be better, since the music's still moving.

Winber1's Insane:
Sorry, but there's no way I can do this justice, since it's an insane made to be super-hard, and thus can break most rules in the book--everything it's doing appears to make sense (once you assume random jumps are just part of insane), so it should be fine.

Wmf's Taiko:
I have almost no experience with Taiko unfortunately--most of the patterns sound nice, though the only question I have is why the patterns get much slower at then end when the music hasn't slowed down from the chorus?

Anyway, that was interesting for my first mod ever--there was more to write about than I thought for a map with so many posts already.

Er, I think a longer spinner is better in an easy diff so I'll keep it this way.

Spinner immediately after note shouldn't be particularly difficult per se, since it's a decently long spinner so shouldn't be hard to pass.

Astute observation; this originally was just a hard difficulty, but it turned out to be 5.00 stars so I decided to rename it Insane. I'm fine with it being called an easier Insane or a harder Hard, but I like the way it currently is in terms of mapping style. Winber1's Insane being extremely difficult also helps seperate it from this Insane.

Nah, I like the way it is currently.

pah-BOOM-pah-pah-BOOM: That's what I wanted in Easy--in hard, I was thinking to shorten the slider by a half-beat and adding a circle where the start originally was--this just makes the whistle happen in different places on easy and hard :/

Full sliders: I downloaded this map early Sunday morning and actually did the whole mod offline, so I wouldn't have seen the results of the other mod--that works :)

Easy:
For the ending combos, you need to keep your combos more consistent. For example, 01:05:437 (4) and 01:08:042 (1) both are at the start of a measure, but one has a new combo and one does not. 01:15:856 (3) has the same scenario. To be consistent with the chorus, I would give 01:05:437 (4) and 01:15:856 (3) new combos and remove teh new combo directly afterward.

Hard:
00:28:973 (1) - half speed was too much of a slowdown for me (esp since I don't think a slow slider is even needed here)

Insane:
00:35:647 (6,2) (nazi) - make these note not overlap because the 300 from 6 overlaps with 2 for a fair bit of time

Winber1's Insane: A lot of complaints about aesthetics, so feel free to ignore me if you really want to keep the map the way it is.
00:06:997 (1,2) - maybe rearrange like this: (makes 3 end exactly on 2's slider and does not intrude on the start of 2)
00:18:066 (4,5,6) - flip these vertically to avoid overlapping 00:16:927 (2)

Wmf's Taiko: I would remove all the lines with empty.png because they are not needed (I don't know what your plans for the thanks were, but I guess you can keep it.

Not a bad map overall. I mostly only have complaints about Winber's diff, but it is tolerable. I am still undecided on what I should do with the map after the fixes, so fix up what you want and then contact me. I'll guarantee at least a rebubble by the end of it.

01:02:833 (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) - this set of jumps was sort of randomly placed and seemed only to be there for difficulty (don't see the song suggesting anything like this) (To make matters worse, the end of the song gets a lot easier, making this area stick out even more, even though the music is about the same)i find this fun actually but that's just me. This pattern actually made a lot more sense before i changed the kiai time imo, since this part used to be much easier than the kiai time, and then the map slowly got easier. anyways, i just made it easier for now.

I would probably remove the lines with empty.png from the sb. Actually... they're used by Wmf's Taiko to force the background in front of the other stuff normally found in a taiko diff.

Easy:
For the ending combos, you need to keep your combos more consistent. For example, 01:05:437 (4) and 01:08:042 (1) both are at the start of a measure, but one has a new combo and one does not. 01:15:856 (3) has the same scenario. To be consistent with the chorus, I would give 01:05:437 (4) and 01:15:856 (3) new combos and remove teh new combo directly afterward. Good catch, fixed.

Hard:
00:28:973 (1) - half speed was too much of a slowdown for me (esp since I don't think a slow slider is even needed here) Changed to a full-speed wave slider.

Insane:
00:35:647 (6,2) (nazi) - make these note not overlap because the 300 from 6 overlaps with 2 for a fair bit of time Fixed

Wmf's Taiko: I would remove all the lines with empty.png because they are not needed (I don't know what your plans for the thanks were, but I guess you can keep it. Same note as above, these are needed to put the background in front.

Not a bad map overall. I mostly only have complaints about Winber's diff, but it is tolerable. I am still undecided on what I should do with the map after the fixes, so fix up what you want and then contact me. I'll guarantee at least a rebubble by the end of it.

Fixed! I had thought about it while mapping this part but worried that it flowed awkwardly, but it appears it'll be fine.

Wow.

My theory is that everyone was too busy trying to pass the Kiai time to notice the SB (or lack thereof).
