Preparations for fully ranked taiko (and score reset), along with a load of bug fixes dominated this release. There are as usual a few new features to play with, and the impeding i18n implementation which will soon allow the whole of the osu! interface to be translated into a number of languages. You can see this in action on the song select screen already :).

Known problems: (do not report these)
Frame limiter turned off may be slightly more laggy than before under very specific circumstances.
Per-beatmap custom cursor sprites are still not used.
Scoreboard colours are still too bright.
Pause menu arrows look a bit strange.

2009-06-28 (b695)

If your updater is stuck, please redownload osume here and replace your copy. This would only have happened if you updated the second the update was released, so most people can ignore this.

As usual, vent your anger at all the horrible new features and requirements for new toggles in this thread :P.
abalee
oh we are too late to provide our translation of Simplified Chinese :(
it will be come out in these few days ;)

kiai time alert is cute XD

sweet, for a second ago i though i need to reinstall and patch it again from zero if stuck up...
adam2046
Hey uh peppy, could you install a toggle for this bothersome "osu!" feature?
YoshiKart
Graphics tablet taps do not get disabled in play mode when mouse buttons are disabled in options. :(

Other than that, great release, peppy. I like the Kiai Time indicator. :P

Ehhh....The Song Menu just keeps going up and up and up without stopping, even if i start pressing on enter like crazy I cant select a song.
If you dont get what Im saying, just look at this.

Is this supposed to happen??

I'm getting lower FPS, before I get like 1.3K FPS in game and now I get no more than 225FPS. Any ideas why ?

peppy set an FPS limit. It's expected behaviour, sadly.

No, Im not on a table, I tried launching the game through the updater, that somehow worked.
That problem is fixed, but now theres a new one.

70% of the songs are red, and where there once was 4 dificulties, there is now only one.
Can someone explain just WHAT red colored songs mean? And if I need to re-download all the songs that are red colored to get back the missing dificulties?
UtsukimiJerry
hmm nice updates but it seems that i lag a lot more when the frame rate is limited to 225. (mind that i got bad pc)

Well, now I can't exploit the drumrolls in taiko anymore. :o

I'm surprised you'd openly admit to this...

(*) Taiko drumrolls must be hit in time with the BPM.
YES. NO MORE GAY MASHING.

NOW I GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO BANG ROKODO ON THE HEAD. KATSUS DON'T USUALLY GET TO DO THAT ON THEIR DONS.

Now it's a fight for accuracy, damn it! Hahahaha! *explodes*

Wow, when I try and do recordings now, it doesn't need to stay at a 100 fps to keep the sliders from lagging.
Thanks peppy. :D

I'm quite against this. Even in the arcade if you can hit the drum faster than the BPM, the game encourages you to do so. There's no such thing as a 'point cap' in Taiko. Does anyone have any idea how fast people can drumroll in the arcade? Not to mention the number of hits you can get in on the home versions when you use controllers.

Video for good measure. Notice the drumroll on 00.49. If you follow the BPM, you would barely be able to scrape 15 hits. Elite players usually determine who has the higher score by HOW FAST they handle the drumroll. How else would they be able to set records, especially after getting perfect accuracy on all the notes?

Hey guys, this isn't taiko no tatsujin. This is osu! taiko mode. I want it this way and will not be changing it back. Sorry :).

@zekira: the maximum rate depends on the bpm, but is either 1/4 1/8 or 1/16 (averages allowing 10 hits per second).

Won't make much of a noticeable difference - you're just perceiving this. It will be fixed in the coming update so wait for that or cover up your fps metre.

I'd recommend talking to Inozuma about this; he seems to be spearheading all the french-related activities. You can find him in here, usually.

For the taiko drumrolls, what about songs that are snapped to 1/3 or 1/6? Wouldn't drumming to eighth/sixteenth notes be unnatural?

The human eyes doesn't take anything faster than like 300fps (if I remember correctly). Plus, the monitor's frame rate cannot go above the refresh rate. Your 1200fps is the internal frame rate, however your montor's refresh rate must be 120kHz to fully cram in all the frames. If anything, you mouse should move faster because of less CPU taken by all those frames.

Now for another issue: The permanently display song info is a little messed up. Let's say I was listening to song A. I clicked the permanently display song info button. Then I go into Play > Single (actually I think it works for the extras and edit mode). Then I selected a different song and exit to the menu. It still displays song A.
Just a little imperfection to the permanently display song info, but it's a little random...

it is a very noticable difference for me !!
- i be patient for the next release and what do you mean with "cover up your fps metre"??

With a piece of paper.

Or disable it in options, right?
0_o
They mean you won't notice the FPS difference as much if you can't see the actual FPS figure (it's a psychology thing)

You can also disable it in the Options menu though...
Echo
In other words, both 1200Hz and 250Hz should be faster than your eye can perceive.
Hanyuu
i notice before the patch too -.-

when i play for more hours the FPS go down from 1200 too 200 too and it is very noticable for the move of my mouse - when i move by feeling and keep my sight on the following notes! the lower the fps goes the "slower" or "heavier" my mouse feels to play. i can not explain this but it feels for me there is a mouse lag! when i play normal (250) then press F7 the difference is really noticeable !! for the moving feeling

yes i really know my eye can not understand 1200 FPS haha - but try to understand it is the feeling in my hand moving hand/game cursor coordination (distances)

but i have my solution - i turned it to mode OPEN GL. the game sometimes really lags alot when i switch game and firefox and i have to restart it alot. also the circle and sliders looks like glass but i can move my mouse like before lol

Yup, same here.

It's not as much of a problem at 200FPS as it is with 60FPS but it's still noticable.
Zekira
What? How the hell do people get above 100FPS anyway? O_O
Echo
You need a computer that's not 5 years old to begin with ;P
qlum
i get form 80 to 110 fps nothing has changed since this update

Just popping in to say that all's well for me.
I'm using a Wacom Intuos3 with the Apr. 9, 2009 official Vista drivers.

Also, is it possible to make the taiko sprites animate in regular osu too?
BECAUSE IT WOULD BE AWESOME
Doomsday
before the last big update using z+x caused my cursor to lag. after the big update it then worked fine with no lag, but after the first bug fix added not long ago today (i think) it seemed to start lagging my cursor again. i've tried rebooting osu and my PC, closing unnecessary programs and such and no difference (frame limiter isn't on btw, using it causes it to be much worse for me).

just dropping this in here

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but changing hitsounds, new combos and breaks still aren't triggering saves..

Also, what of this?

Fix'd.

Okay, since most monitors on the market don't operate at anything above 80hz, why is this even being discussed?

Also, with the new (VERY MUCH NEEDED) Taiko change, why haven't the scores been reset? It pretty much makes all songs impossible to rank now, what with all the ludicrous scores from massive spamming battles still on the charts.

Because many CAN operate above 60Hz. Also, read this post: viewtopic.php?p=151069#p151069

That'd be annoying when scores reset every time a change is made. Just wait until scoring has been finalized for a reset.
blade456
Honestly taiko without the drum roll mashing isnt taiko to me i mean it will help make the scoring fair so that people with good accuracy can score higher than the drum roll mashers but mashing the drum roll was fun to me. then again i cant do anything about it so i guess i'll have to cope with it i still love osu! though

At least you won't have a sad and leave like others ;).

I like how Auto fails on the Taiko sliders now. :3

(Generic I'll adapt to sliders taiko is still fun message)

The Spectator's list now is quite small. Not every spectating is always going to be a White Wolf incident. Just saying though. <3
