Improving jump accuracy/aim

I was looking for input on strategies for hitting two objects that are *very* far apart in screen space, but within a short time such as 1/4 beat, a.k.a. jumps. My problem with especially wide jumps (in maps such as Lemon Tree (MM201), or the James difficulty of WILD EYES (http://osu.ppy.sh/b/25165) is the short time within which I have to aim at an object far off across the screen. I slam my mouse across and hope for the best, but often break my combo either on the jump, or from the awkward position of my wrist after having survived the jump a few clicks after it happened. Sometimes I have the ability to click them while sweeping across (over shooting, but clicking when over the object, even if too early/late)

Any other mega-jump survival techniques?

I personally, don't just jet my mouse over to the next hitcircle. I just "move" my mouse normally, but much faster. It also helps to try to aim?

So I've pretty much played this game with "Enhance pointer precision" since the beginning. When I turn it off I notice a few things. Streams are easier to stay on, jumps are more controlled, but also more difficult (since I have to move the mouse farther to reach), and I can't zip around the screen like I used to. But the big difference with pointer precision disabled, I am no longer running off the desk with my mouse. That in of itself suggests to me it is worth getting used to playing this way.

Thanks for your advice everyone.

You don't "do" anything.

It's called muscle memory, and the way it works is that, with time and alot of practice (repetition), the muscles in your hand/wrist will get used to the distance and will get it rigth on perfectly in a very small amount of time.

But yes, this applies to pretty much any game (fps games for example) and even sports and other activities in life.

SPOILER

Frigging piano jumps -.-

But really, my jump accuracy improved with practice, but still could be much better than it is now.

Turning off mouse acceleration is most important of course. In my opinion there is no specific way to improve Your accuracy. Only thing that can help is practice. Just play. Some FPS games can be a good practice too.

play lots and lots of emerald sword, tag4 maps, and I want you.
Grind it!
MegaManEXE
Play Alace maps lol

Keep your eyes on the prize.

Normally when I play, I look at the center of the screen and rely on peripheral vision to see what I'm doing. This helps with watching approach circles and the order of objects.

But when you're going for a jump, it helps to stare directly at the target hitcircle to help with your coordination.

Wow none of you people have said it yet.

If you find your arm or wrist getting into awkward positions during jumps and they just feel like "too much", up your sensitivity. It can partially be caused by mouse acceleration too but some people get butthurt when I insult their precious mouse accel.

It may seem counter intuitive to increase your mouse sensitivity to reach jumps but trust me once you adjust to a new sensitivity it's fine.

Added to megathread.

Things that have helped me in the past:

-Turning off mouse acceleration
-Increasing sensitivity
-Practising jumping "by feel", don't look at the cursor as much, let your instinct and muscle memory take over
-A quality mouse (g9) but this isn't necessary to be a great jumper as many have demonstrated, it just helps.

you can play with mouse accelaretion on. it is just harder and you will need more practice. it is your choice

when i started i find it very important for myself to understand the jumps. i often was too fast and too hectic to react to a jump and moved to unaccurate. the jumps in most beatmaps are not so hard as they look. try to complete every jump even if you score a 50 or 100 point for it you will fast get a feeling and understanding for the movement. i think DoLL at TERRA marathon is a medium difficulty jump map. it is not a hard beatmap but it help to practice your mouse because you will go in all kind of directions.

WILD EYES is a very crazy map, all you can make here is practice the jumps alot and have a very good feeling with the mouse. even when you are good with jumps this beatmap is very hard and you will need some tries and luck to hit everything.

also this is just for me but maybe it helps you. for a jump or a serie of jumps that go left right then up down and so on i try to stay in the exact movement that is required (the points between the jump). i try to move with the line as good as possible because going in a round way is not very accurate and easy to miss.
try to watch your replay and watch your mouse cursor of your play. it helps with your improvement because when playing you often dont have the time to watch close and think :)

edit: if you have a big computer monitor use window mode. i use window 1280x800 resultion

It's simple, increase the cursor speed.
