I got wrist injuries 3 different times between 2016 and 2017, which ended up being the cause of my early retirement. After 3 years, I still have traces of RSI in my right wrist, something that still haunts me every time I try to train my speed.
I injured myself over time thanks to lazy body positioning and extreme amounts of tension for a long, long time. Maybe I can't go back in time and stop myself from getting my wrist wrecked but I can give you guys some advice so you won't end up the same way as I did.
-Please, make sure you're always comfortable with the position your hands are while playing. If you feel pain or you experience difficulties of any kind while trying to hit notes, STOP. Try to reassess the way you're playing - your hands should ideally be at a 90° angle from your shoulders, forming a triangle. -Don't push yourself too much & always warm up before trying hard stuff. If you know you'll end up burned out after playing that 260 bpm dense JS map, why are you trying to play it before warming up? You won't be very balanced if you do that. -Make short term goals from time to time and strive to achieve those goals. Leave the long term goals for later, don't even think about them if you can avoid it. If you know your JS skill is good until 200 BPM, try to improve and make it 210. If you know you suck at jacks, play 5 easy CJ maps per day every day. -Don't leave any skillset behind. This can and will be a source of frustration later on. Speed, stamina, precision, tech, SV, LNs and pattern recognition are things you might not like equally, but you should be improving in all of them at more or less the same rate. You'll be naturally better at some skillsets over others, but if you really try to be balanced in your qualities, you won't notice much difference between them. -RELAX YOUR BODY. I can't stress this enough. That's the basis of a good player. If you learn how to redirect & control your body tension, you're gonna go far, kid. (You'll also learn to vibro without trying) -Remember to pls enjoy gaem. If you're not having fun, you have nothing to do here. Go do something else with your precious time.
