USA Taiko Tournament


Welcome to the first official American Taiko tournament!


Hello my fellow Americans. I'm here today to inform you that YOU, my lovely little burgers, are invited to an Americans only Taiko Tournament. Yeah, you! Garpo and I have struck up this idea and we think it would be very fun as an event before TWC 2016 starts, perhaps also as scouting for our USA team in the upcoming event. Maybe there will be a break-out player in this event, or maybe it'll be the same old dominance. We'll all have to see in the upcoming couple of months. I hope all of the best players come out and compete to their best ability. Thanks for reading!

Sign-ups are to be done by PM. Send Garpo or I a message on the website or in-game about signing up. There is no rank cap. Please include your timezone! i suck at writing so bad

Prizes:
1st Place : 3 Months of Supporter + Special Prize
2nd Place : 2 Months of Supporter
3rd Place : 1 Month of Supporter


Rules

1: 1 on 1 Taiko Match in team style format with a point given to the highest score.
2: First to 3 points for first round, 5 for finals and 4 for every other round.
3: Map pools will contain 7 NoMod, 3 HD, 3 HR, 3 DT, 3 EX, and 1 Tiebreaker.
4: Players are only allowed to pick once from the mod pools.
5: You are granted 1 map to ban per match.
6: Each player gets 1 warm-up map to start up the match, if they wish to play one. This is the only situation where ANY mod(s) can be used.
7: Roll is used to determine who will get the first pick and the first ban. The winner of roll will select the first map, whereas the loser will ban the first map.
8: Tiebreaker will be played only if both players are 1 point away from winning. It is not free mod.
9: Players will be seeded according to their global rank.
10: This tournament style is much like the World Cup, with a Group Stage followed by a knock-out structure with a loser bracket.
11: The tournament participants will be decided by rank, however if the response is big enough we will expand the roster size
12: United States players only in this tournament.

I implore everyone to sign up regardless of rank, if there is a huge response we can try to expand the tournament.

Hmmmm... tempting. I'll come back in here with my decision, but I've been playing a little bit of Taiko since MWC and I like to think that I could improve quite a bit in the face of competition, haha.

EDIT: just so I'm clear, there is no rank cap, right? I know I have a pretty sub-standard rank and low performance point count, haha.
EDIT2: oops, apparently missed the part about PM for sign-ups, my bad - I swear I know how to read :lol:

Can't wait until it starts.
I'm gonna have to practice all day every day until the day the registration ends before I can come to a 100% conclusion that I'll even be doing it. I hardly want to play in front of whoever would be watching and end up embarrassing myself because I can't read Taiko worth crap. lol

Just throwing it out there again since we're getting a little closer. If we end up getting an awkward number of entrants for the tourney, I'll withdraw my spot to allow someone else the opportunity to play, since I've already played in one tourney this year, and I can focus more on streaming matches that way. :D

Map Pool

Schedule will be released tomorrow. There may be a delay until next week, I am very sick and feel like I won't be able to do it, but i'll try to find some help between now and tomorrow so we can get this done and all set. Thanks for being patient.

EX Pool is no mod specific maps, they are designed so that no mods specifically have an advantage or if a player would like to play a harder map to strategically knock out another player. It will become much more clear in later rounds the use of this pool, as it applies much better later in the rounds with harder maps. Hopefully you will enjoy this addition. EX has the same rules as other mods (only one pick)

I have an announcement. Unfortunately, last night I was rushed to the emergency room with some very strange and uncomfortable feelings. The ER doctor was fairly useless and provided no answers. This morning I went to my family doctor and found out some of the medicine I was taking had a drastic effect on my health as well as a sinus infection. That said, none of it is life threatening but because of this im going to delay the tournament one week until next weekend. It seems like this is the best course of action for not only me and the staff who are sick too, but as well as some players who believed they wouldnt make it to this weekend.

Tl;dr, matches will be next weekend, not this one.

Tl;dr, matches will be next weekend, not this one.

Probably the best course of action, as it is to keep in good health of all fallen ill and allows players with taken weekends to participate with everyone, if they had any important plans. On the plus side, more time to practice the beatmaps I find hard to play. May you get well Backfire, and to anyone that has fallen ill :D

Hopefully Thanksgiving weekend doesn't mean that some people can't make their first round tournament matches. I know I'll be traveling Sunday and I'm sure others may be as well.

i also can't stream that week regardless of which round it is on 0.2Mbps upload lol

Tfw you're in the same group as FLANKs.

On another note I'm glad everything worked out like it did as I just thought to see this info now, but sad to hear about Backfire. Take your time with getting everything with this tournament right Backfire, health is more important than video games.
