Problem Details: It seems ever since the update that removed the osu!coins, it just wouldn't connect to the internet. Of course, I can do everything else i normally do (Skype, Steam, Browsers, etc.), but this problem still remains. I messed with my firewall settings and even disabled it, but nothing happened. And just now all my settings reset. I'd really like some help, please. :(

osu! version: 20150305

This is the 5th thread about being unable to connect to osu! servers today. What is even going on?

Try the following;
  1. Close osu!.
  2. Open the 'windows firewall with advanced security'. (Search for "firewall" or get to it trough the control panel.)
  3. Go to 'Inbound Rules' and click on 'New Rule...'.
  4. Program -> Browse to the osu!.exe file -> Allow the connection > Select all.
  5. Do the same for 'Outbound Rules'.
  6. Reboot your router.
  7. See if it works.
If not do the following;
  1. Open the command promt (cmd.exe).
  2. Type "ping irc.ppy.sh" and press enter.
  3. Wait till it finishes and see if there are any time-outs.
(If there were time-outs it's likely a routing issue, and neither us nor you can do anything about it. Contact your ISP.)

-Close down any and all programs or background processes that aren't required to run
-Try it on a different PC on the same connection, and on the same PC but on a different connection.
Can't say much else other than all of that. Please do provide some screenshots.

As for your settings being reset; The osu! settings are saved in a file named "osu!.<username>.cfg" in the osu! installation directory.
If something happened to that file or you're using a different (windows) account, that would explain why your settings are reset.

I'm keeping track, and here is the break down as of 4/4/15:

t/315637 [POSSIBLY?]
t/314937

They seem unrelated, but going further back I don't see many net issues. Therefore they must related in some sort. Try running with admin privileges, disablling antivirus, troubleshooting router issues? If you could connect while the coins were still a thing, try grabbing the *.exe and see if you can log in (copy it to your osu folder and run it from there).

WTF was in that release?

It's weird to say the least. It's probably not because of the update though. Or at the very least not directly.
While the amount of people having issues is more since, it's still pretty much nothing compared to the userbase.

Anyhow, I've filtered that list to unresolved issues that are somewhat relevant.
  1. Internet Connection problem since April fools update (This thread.)
  2. cannot login into the game
  3. osu!updarer says that my network connection isn't working.
  4. osu! can't connect with the internet
  5. can't update or connect to bancho
  6. Osu is freaking messing with my internet...
  7. Can't log in!!
Also please don't link executables. (I've been 'yelled at' for it before.) And an osu!.exe alone will probably not do anything.
Removed that part from your post. If you want them to try that out they should grab it trough the official download link instead.

good job,
no idea about that issue either anymore, it seems very weird to me

Bump.

I'm having the same issue. Things I've tried so far:

  1. IP Renew/Release
  2. Advanced Firewall Settings
  3. Router restart
  4. Using a VPN
  5. PC Restart
  6. .NET framework fix
  7. Compatibility mode
I just pinged irc.ppy.sh. Works fine.

osu! updated properly on my laptop without any problems

My current <desktop> build is 20150401.1beta AND it was working just fine yesterday.
Halp pls. kek

EDIT: System restore fixed the problem. osu! was working fine until I installed Visual Studio 2012. It could be the cause for my issue.

Okay everyone, i have solved this problem.

And for all of you here because you have the same problem, there are 2 things that you can do.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator, and type in the following code:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Then press enter. Give that a second then it should say something like, ______ now restart the computer for this to take effect, but first, also type in this code just in case.

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

Then enter. give that a few seconds for text to pop-up, then restart your pc.

This should work, if it doesn't then the cause of this error is a malware. Get Norton 360 or kapersky, or MSE to do a quick scan and it should fix that. Hope this helps guys, :)
abraker
I wonder what relation that has with osu!, but nice that you found a fix. Now to see if this fix applies to the other net problems the forums has been flooding with.
