Rayman 1 is a fun game, and you should play it.

05/01/2015: Changed background, special thanks to Anthony Philippeau for making such a beautiful piece of artwork!

Officially revived and active towards ranking: 03/14/2017
Status: Looking for BNs! The map shall undergo the seeking of mods in the meantime, but the map has reached a fair level of polish at this point in time, so while I work on modifying this map to perfection throughout mods, BN checkups would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Thanks to Jonawaga for bubbling, and my constant bubbling popping, and Surono for qualifying the map at the end (oops sorry Stefan didn't quite find the right time :< )
Thanks Surono for noticing bugged SV, and Irreversible for DQ'ing after the fact. Let's work this one more time.

Please download past 05/03/2017 if you wish to have your glorious 1366x768 BG, otherwise feel free to forever be three pixels short~

First. Sorry. I had to do it. XD

Hi! From my forum NM/M4M taiko queue.
I am pretty thorough, so don't be annoyed if I point out a lot of issues. A lot of times they are just my opinions, so feel free to object to them. :3

I look at mainly composing: how you map the music. Not just the drums; the vocals, background synth, the symphonic backing, the pauses; everything. But especially vocals.
I also look at pattern repetition and consistency, and how you fit in your 1/4 runs.

(Note: If I tell you your Oni isn’t hard enough, that’s just my masochist side speaking, you can most definitely ignore if you wish. ^.^ )

d = don
k = katsu
D = big don
K = big katsu

General
ONI IS TOO EASY URMURGURD

Your SV (approach rate) is a bit slow for my taste... Maybe 1.5x or 1.6x?

From AIMod, your uninherited timing points conflict with Kantan diff, i.e. Kantan timing point is off. You might wanna check some of those bpm/offsets.

I feel like with a song as relaxing as this one kiai time is not necessary, and the current one is pretty awkwardly placed as well.

Kantan
00:14:418 (13) - move to 00:13:995, since this is the beginning of a new section, onbeat should be mapped.
00:23:294 (23,24) - change to kd, match guitar pitch, first note being k also matches snares
00:30:902 (7,8) - change to dK?
00:41:045 (21,22) - change to dk, match onbeat as well as synth pitch
00:52:034 - add k, this gap is weird imo
00:56:260 (14) - change to d, match onbeat bass drum kick

Futsuu
00:06:388 (12,16) - change to d, match marimba low note
00:14:840 (26) - change to k, k/K would match synth pitch, but personally I don't feel like there's enough emphasis here to warrant a K
00:25:407 (45) - change to d, match synth pitch
00:51:611 (8,9) - change to dk would match bass note, your choice though.
00:57:950 (21,22,23) - these sliders play essentially like one long slider and wouldn't have the effect you want. You might want to either;
1. Merge them into one long slider.
2. Replace them with 3 D's.
3. Reduce length of first two to turn them into 1/2 note sliders.

Muzukashii
00:07:092 (18,22,26) - it would be best not to place notes immediately after sliders (keep in mind sliders are essentially 1/12 runs)
00:11:882 (32,33) - change to k k, match marimba high note
00:13:572 (39,40) - ^
00:14:277 (41,42) - change to kD, dD is unrankable with this bpm (yes, everyone can play this just fine, it's just a conventional rule we have to follow :( )
00:21:039 (59,60,61) - change to dk k, match synth pitch
00:27:802 (2) - change to d, match synth pitch
00:33:296 (20) - I don't find it necessary to emphasize this note, k works as well
00:40:058 (42) - either change to k to match synth pitch, or move to 00:40:199 to match onbeat
00:41:749 (45,52) - change to k, match synth
00:51:188 (10,11,12,13,14,15,16) - this is pretty monotonous, suggest recomposing
00:57:950 (34,35,36) - see futsuu

Oni
00:06:246 - change this run to
Image
to match marimba pitch
00:07:937 and 00:09:628 and 00:11:318 and 00:13:009 - same as above
00:14:277 (42,43) - see Muzukashii
00:19:771 (58,59,60,61,62,63) - sounds pretty monotonous here as well, suggest recomposing
00:23:153 (72) - change to k, match synth pitch
00:40:058 (137,138) - change to kd, match synth pitch
00:46:680 (5,6) - maybe change to kk? This would emphasize the remaining d's as bass drum kick, up to you though.
00:49:779 (19,20,21,22) - change to dk kd to follow previous patterns
00:57:105 (49) - I prefer this note as k to match snares, up to you though
00:57:950 (51) - change to k, and change 00:59:641 (63) to K instead.

And also, after looking through my mod, would you mind taking the time to check out my taiko set? <3

There you go! Solid map. Hope you find this mod helpful, and good luck beatmapping!

Your SV (approach rate) is a bit slow for my taste... Maybe 1.5x or 1.6x? Yeah, that's doable.

From AIMod, your uninherited timing points conflict with Kantan diff, i.e. Kantan timing point is off. You might wanna check some of those bpm/offsets. Fixed, though I was originally trying to fix this before. Just couldn't figure out what was wrong exactly.

I feel like with a song as relaxing as this one kiai time is not necessary, and the current one is pretty awkwardly placed as well. Kiai Time is usually used for an upbeat part of the song, or so I've noticed, and this part of the song is more upbeat than the rest of the song.

Kantan
00:14:418 (13) - move to 00:13:995, since this is the beginning of a new section, onbeat should be mapped. Moved, but without the beat in the original spot, it overall felt very empty. So I added the note back.
00:23:294 (23,24) - change to kd, match guitar pitch, first note being k also matches snares Done.
00:30:902 (7,8) - change to dK? Done.
00:41:045 (21,22) - change to dk, match onbeat as well as synth pitch Done.
00:52:034 - add k, this gap is weird imo Yeah, I agree.
00:56:260 (14) - change to d, match onbeat bass drum kick Listening closer, I concur, doctor.

Futsuu
00:06:388 (12,16) - change to d, match marimba low note Done.
00:14:840 (26) - change to k, k/K would match synth pitch, but personally I don't feel like there's enough emphasis here to warrant a K Sounds better, yes.
00:25:407 (45) - change to d, match synth pitch Done.
00:51:611 (8,9) - change to dk would match bass note, your choice though. My choice is I agree.
00:57:950 (21,22,23) - these sliders play essentially like one long slider and wouldn't have the effect you want. You might want to either;
1. Merge them into one long slider. There is definitely distinction between the beats, and one long slider wouldn't cut it here.
2. Replace them with 3 D's. Doesn't quite work here in my opinion.
3. Reduce length of first two to turn them into 1/2 note sliders. Decided with this one.

Muzukashii
00:07:092 (18,22,26) - it would be best not to place notes immediately after sliders (keep in mind sliders are essentially 1/12 runs) Feels slightly empty, but it feels nicer to play.
00:11:882 (32,33) - change to k k, match marimba high note Fixed.
00:13:572 (39,40) - ^ ^
00:14:277 (41,42) - change to kD, dD is unrankable with this bpm (yes, everyone can play this just fine, it's just a conventional rule we have to follow :( ) Wasn't quite aware of this. Fixed, and noted.
00:21:039 (59,60,61) - change to dk k, match synth pitch Fixed.
00:27:802 (2) - change to d, match synth pitch Matched.
00:33:296 (20) - I don't find it necessary to emphasize this note, k works as well Thought originally it was emphasized, but it appears after a few consequential listens, I was wrong.
00:40:058 (42) - either change to k to match synth pitch, or move to 00:40:199 to match onbeat Went with first option, as the second option would end this passage feeling rather incomplete.
00:41:749 (45,52) - change to k, match synth Fixed.
00:51:188 (10,11,12,13,14,15,16) - this is pretty monotonous, suggest recomposing Recomposed, I agree, it didn't seem to fit with Muzukashii or really anything.
00:57:950 (34,35,36) - see futsuu see Futsuu onto comments.

Oni
00:06:246 - change this run to

00:07:937 and 00:09:628 and 00:11:318 and 00:13:009 - same as above Same as above.

00:19:771 (58,59,60,61,62,63) - sounds pretty monotonous here as well, suggest recomposing Definitely changed. It feels better I believe.
00:23:153 (72) - change to k, match synth pitch Fixed.
00:40:058 (137,138) - change to kd, match synth pitch Fixed.
00:46:680 (5,6) - maybe change to kk? This would emphasize the remaining d's as bass drum kick, up to you though. Changed, but also altered this group of notes slightly to try and match the pitches.
00:49:779 (19,20,21,22) - change to dk kd to follow previous patterns Feels smoother now.
00:57:105 (49) - I prefer this note as k to match snares, up to you though I believe a d is being kept here.
00:57:950 (51) - change to k, and change 00:59:641 (63) to K instead. Was contemplating on the end bit for a while, and after some thinking, it seems to end the song better.

Hey, from the q

d = don
k = katsu
D = Big don
K = Big katsu

and also always, my opinions are subjective. It's your map, bro. I'm just here to help.

Kantan:
  • 00:16:954 (16) - k*

  • 00:18:222 (17) - d*

  • 00:19:912 (18) - K*

  • 00:36:395 (15) - K
    *I would either implement all of these or none, but it's not a run, so I decided to separate them. They way you have it is good, I just like the thing I've come up with a bit better :)
    Although still nice job. Really creative to use offbeats and offbeat finishes.
Futsuu:
Muzu:

Don't have much time and Oni looked pretty good anyways, although I would consider speeding up the scroll speed a tiny bit. gj <3

Kantan:
  • 00:16:954 (16) - k* Yeah, listening close to this makes me believe this note doesn't need emphasis.

  • 00:18:222 (17) - d* ^

  • 00:19:912 (18) - K* But on the other hand, this note also doesn't need emphasis when compared to the other notes within the song.

  • 00:36:395 (15) - K Doesn't really need emphasis, or I don't think so anyways.
    *I would either implement all of these or none, but it's not a run, so I decided to separate them. They way you have it is good, I just like the thing I've come up with a bit better :) Mostly followed this, though the emphasis on the last not isn't really needed.
    Although still nice job. Really creative to use offbeats and offbeat finishes. Thanks!
Futsuu:
  • 00:07:233 (7) - D Didn't originally think this was needed, but after a few listens through, it seems to fit. Changed for now.

  • 00:16:954 (29) - d Fixed.

  • 00:20:335 (35,36,37,38) - I would make Dd dd On the contrary, I think dd Dd fits best.

    Nice difficulty, couple awkward parts tho. I'd appreciate if this were more specific, but thanks!
Muzu:
  • 00:15:263 (15) - k Already is?

  • 00:18:926 (51) - D I concur, doctor.

  • 00:32:873 (18) - remove The other rhythm fit just fine, but maybe this suits the Muzukashii difficulty more. Changed for now.

  • 00:33:296 (20) - d I think it works for this to remain as a k.

  • 00:50:765 (9-19) - Kinda out of place. Consider revising? The straight rhythm for so long doesn't really fit too well imo. I can attest that this used to be different, but was changed. However, I do agree this was probably too basic for Muzukashii, so I've altered it.
    Fun to play, I have to say :) Thanks!

Don't have much time and Oni looked pretty good anyways, although I would consider speeding up the scroll speed a tiny bit. gj <3

From my modding queue:

Kantan

Starting scroll speed of the map is deceptive and might be a turn off to some players. Suggest changing it so that it isn't as deceptive.

Other than that, I found no glaring issues.

Futsuu

00:04:697 - Add small red here.
00:57:950 - Suggest changing these three sliders into a spinner that starts here and ends 01:00:768 here.

No other issues.

Muzu

00:21:180 (57) - This finishers is very awkward. Suggest either making this a small note or removing the note preceding this, which isn't really that good of an option.
00:29:915 (10) - Another awkward finisher that should probably be demoted to a small note.

00:21:180 (66) - Another awkward finisher. Suggest removing note before it or making it a small note.

00:34:705 (119) - ^
00:48:230 (14) - ^
00:57:950 (51) - This finisher should probably be a small note. I don't really like finishers that are part of any kind of stream, whether it be 1/4th or 1/6th notes, and I'm pretty sure that finishers cannot be used in 1/6th note streams if they want it to be ranked.

  • 00:57:950 (18,19,20) - Sounds good but change to Spin as Futsuu and Muzu for general pattern. I'm assuming you're stating that Kantan should have the spinner and Muzu should have the triple D. If that's the case, then yeah, I can get behind this. Fixed.

Ah, makes sense, yeah.

Oni

  • 00:06:247 (8,9,10,11,12) - i'm not sure with the pattern how about try kddkk / kdkdk / kddkd / ddkkd Personally, for this first one, the current pattern should work fine.
  • 00:07:937 - ^ On the other hand, the first note here can be changed to better match. Changed.
  • something like ddkdk like ^ you can change to that :) Mostly applied. For the third ddkdk pattern, I don't think it's necessary to change, but the others I can agree with.
  • 00:39:636 (136,137) - dk is better in here Yes, I agree.

Muzukashii

  • Remove some slider that you put please it doesn't fit with anything Listening to it closer does bring me to believe that this is the case.
  • if you remove them the pattern from 00:05:965-00:10:191 - should k kd d k kd d k kd d I do agree with the sliders, but this pattern doesn't fit often either. For the most part, k kd k works better.
  • 00:11:741 - remove or change the pattern to kd d d Again, I agree with the changing the pattern, but this pattern isn't right. It should be dk d instead, as the higher note is not the one you have proposed.
  • 00:13:432 - ^
^

Futsuu

  • 00:01:316 (3,6) - change to d is better Was difficult for me to decide if this was really the case, but it does sound better.
  • 00:05:120 (10,14,18) - remove because too much notes for Futsuu Removing 10 results in an awkward gap. However, 14 and 18 can be removed just fine. Mostly fixed.
  • 00:41:749 (75,77) - remove slider and put d Yeah, that works.
  • 00:51:188 (7,11) - remove because too much notes Removing any of these notes will create an awkward gap in gameplay, I'm going to keep this notes for now.

Kantan

Hi!
From THD&113 inc Mod queue!

Kantan
It looks fine , nothing to change here

Futsuu
00:50:765 (6) - no sound here, consider removing it ?
00:52:456 (9) - ^

Muzukashii
00:05:120 (13,14) - ctrl+g ?

Oni
00:05:120 (5,6) - same as muzu , ctrl+g

Also , theres one tag conflict , your Oni diff doesn't have rayman in the tags (the others do) but hey,
you don't need to include rayman in the tags since it is in the source, remove the "rayman" tag from the other diffs !
sorry for short mod, thats all i can point out , anyways Good luck!

Your BPM looks really weird, try this:
Offset: 503
BPM: 71

Don't forget to resnap all your notes/inherited points in all diffs!
