Currently, the ranking criteria states says:

Only use the Source field if the song comes from or was made famous by a video game, movie, or series. Website names are not an acceptable Artist nor Source.
According to this rule, we have to put the source if the original song is from a videogame, movie or serie. If well all know, the most of Touhou's song in osu are mostly covers, arrangement or inspirated in Stages or characters' theme.
If we allow to people put "Touhou" as source for non-original soundtrack (by ZUN) is like to allow the people to put "Vocaloid" as source what it is a total misconception.

Some examples:
  1. myon - G Free ~ Final Dream (inspired in Reimu's theme)
  2. ZUN - Spring Lane ~ Colorful Path (Reimu's original theme)
  3. Nudarai - Nuclear Fusion (inspired in Okuu's theme)
  4. ZUN - Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion (Okuu's original theme)
My proposals are
For covers, arrangement or inspirated in ZUN's theme, "Touhou" must be added into tags and not in the source field.
and

For Touhou's original themes made by ZUN you must add the name of the game version where it is from (BGA).
Examples:
  1. ZUN - Stirring an Autumn Moon ~ Mooned Insect Correct source: 東方永夜抄 ~ Imperishable Night (Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night) proof
  2. ZUN - U.N. Owen Was Her? Correct source: 東方紅魔郷 ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil ) proof
Discuss.

The name of the games the songs come from are generally pretty long.

Example if using the full romanized name in 4:3 resolution (the line is cut off)

This is almost always in the tags

Also, I don't think the criteria is completely ignored, as the songs are kind of made famous by being themed by a (semi) popular merchandise.
If we applied this, it would have to be applied to themes such as My Little Pony too.

hmm.. tag "touhou" will need to add? but "Touhou song" is the source of "Touhou" is being added.

Part of this should be a general rule for ALL remixes/new arranges as stuff like Tatsh Remix and My Little Pony also include the original source in their sources.

For my opinion. I don't really have an issue with the source being where from the arrange/remix source comes from. I definitely see where you come from though, and it is a pretty valid point.

As for the Full Source and Series Source. I don't really have an issue with either. I'd prefer the full source, but as Full Tablet pointed out. Some of them can be extremely long and would be better just to go off the series source instead of the game/show source.

No matter what, the source is correct. It just depends how in-depth you want to be. The more in-depth the better.

Pokemon
Pokemon Advanced Battle

My Little Pony
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Super Mario RPG
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Love Live! School idol project
Love Live! School idol project Second Season

etc etc etc. What would you rather see?

I'd honestly rather just see the series in the source, not the installment. "beatmania IIDX 21 SPADA" > "beatmania IIDX", for example. As for Touhou stuff, I believe it should be "東方Project" , regardless of which game the arrangement is originating from since we have the ability to use unicode source now. Ensuring all identification of which game the track came from should be in the tags, of course. I do not believe this needs to be a rule, but I think there should be a general practice for maps which are being moved forward.

Edit: re-reading the OP, I believe touhou should still be present in the source for "inspired" arrangements due to the fact that without the original track, the inspired one would not exist. It's pretty much the same with arrangements that vary so heavily from the source material to the point where there's only small nuances; they're still an arrangement.

Touhou Arrangement itself used original touhou bgm song, if it's removed so where is the song from ? it is tags work as source ?.

I like this idea. Especially putting "東方Project" as Source on arrangements.

Also using the "song's game origin" as Source has been common practise across all games (BMS/Touhou/<inputanygamehere>).
I however still agree with the reason why Touhou is completely wrong in covers or arrangements.

So hey cloudchaser. While you're at it, can you add this?

Do not add ZUN in tags of non-original songs.
It's pretty the same, and it's completely dumb; Researching ZUN just to get remixed/arrange or whatever? Unlogical, but i still see people doing it.

Because, regardless, ZUN is still the composer of the song (why would you not credit a famous composer?). Nothing can change an Original composer for remixes or different arranges.

For example, "BMS" as source for https://osu.ppy.sh/s/96103 is 200% more accurate

This rule suggestion focuses too heavily on one genre of music - if you wish to continue this please expand it to include all remixes/arranges that are inspired/sampled/remixed from specific sources. Please create a new thread if you wish to do such!
