Any plan to use Opus (http://www.opus-codec.org/) instead of mp3?
Better quality at lower bitrate.
Edit:
Of course without dropping mp3 support.

Well, cool if osu convert mp3 that you still have to opus for you.Celzon wrote:
it'd be better if it were to use BOTH Opus and MP3 instead of just replacing MP3 completely.
MP3 is obsolete. You need a really high bitrate to get trasparency/good sound.Celzon wrote:
MP3's also almost always readily available.
It's not a commercial codec, that's why.Celzon wrote:
This is the first I've heard of Opus as well..
Not worth for the purpose.marcostudios wrote:

i highly doubt peppy would remove mp3 support for beatmapping. he may to willing to add support for another file format though

It needs some love. They don't have money to ads their good stuff. There is no big company behind that can get something if you use it.TheVileOne wrote:
You seem a little too obsessed with this audio format. Why are you trying so hard to sell us this new format?
I don't get your point, actually. It's a feature request, you need to explain why you want something. That's all.Bassist Vinyl wrote:

I'm not sure why users should care about codecs. It's something related with who make beatmaps.YayMii wrote:
Opus isn't lossless... and the reason why mp3 is still being used is because it is a universal standard. I'm willing to bet you that a lot of people will get angry if mp3 support, regardless of whatever's replacing it.

No. MP3 isn't lossless. Try to listen to an mp3 and then to a FLAC (with good earphones), it won't be the same.a sunflower wrote:

Ye sorry. It's 'couse someone said "loseless" randomdly, i meant lossy. Probably if you read the all sentence you get that missword.dialgadu77 wrote:

Container != CodecDexus wrote:
If it supports ogg wouldn't it support opus? Same with mp4 support and webm vp9 (which I'm curious about if it's supported or not)
Unlike mp3 (which is a container that can only hold the mp3 codec), Ogg can hold various codecs. The most widespread one for it is Vorbis though (Dexus wrote:

Vorbis beat mp3 for a lot of reasons. But you're not going to use it 'couse you don't get a really high bitrate/quality difference. (at low bitrate mp3 sucks, anyway)YayMii wrote:
