rules and phases explanations
They get access to the parliament and are able to suggest and vote on what actions the government should take.
During this phase anyone who meets the previous requirements can register to be a parliament candidate. Just write "I register for parliament" or something along those lines, as long as you properly communicate that you want to be a parliament member it works. If I miss someone please go to my house and scream at me (just tell me in the thread or dms or anywhere)
This phase will last three days. If you missed this phase, you can no longer apply for parliament, sorry buddy!
Also, to expedite the process of the elections, you already may start privately submitting questions for phase 2.
This is the interview/debate phase. From all the questions asked in phase 1, they will be curated into a list that removes the shitposts, and the every parliament candidate must answer to at least 50% of the whitelisted questions. Their answers will also be noted in the OP.
The phaselast 3 days. You may NOT submit questions once phase 2 starts. You may ask questions in the therad itself but they wont be counted as a mandatory question
Every eligible voter has 4 votes, structured in a ranked list format. Candidate with the most points wins.
A ranked list is a way of doing a vote where you just list all the candidates (in this case up to 4) from which one would you ideally want to win followed by the second you like the most followed by the third followed by the fourth, example:
-1st: Nano (4 points)
-2nd: Sakamoto (3 points)
-3rd: Mio (2 points)
-4th Misato (1 points)
Everyone else would get 0 points
Each voter will be provided a unique token after they have voted. Once the results have been announced, a voter may find whom they voted for by their token listed in the voting results. Everyone who had voted must confirm that they have voted in the thread.
The voting period will last 3 days
Campaigning and making threads to boost your popularity is allowed. If you're not eligible for voting you may still make threads related to the elections. Debates are allowed.
Buying votes or gaining votes in a unfairly manner will result on a DQ.
You must have access to discord as that is where gov activities take place
What does a parliament member do?
They get access to the parliament and are able to suggest and vote on what actions the government should take.
Who can participate?
- Any OT member who is included in OT!Eras 2024 can vote, including GMTs, electoral candidates, and current parliament members.
- Any non-GMT member who is included in OT!Eras 2024 can register to be a electoral candidate. The reason why GMTs are NOT included. Reason is because they're already included in the governement as the one actually executing the actions. Also corne isn't running and everyone seem to agree so I swear if this becomes a contention point again I will do a genocide
- Self voting is allowed, as honestly it wouldn't change much, the metagame would be just to not vote if you can't vote for yourself and I don't like that so self-voting allowed everyone votes for themselves it's like we didn't have a vote to begin with.
- If you're a GMT but aren’t part of OT!Eras 2024, you can't vote.

Do you plan on doing something specific or just react to stuff that happens?
Karmine wrote:
Just chilling, aside from denizen and reports I don't plan on pushing for changes.
- Marco - wrote:
Just reacting to stuff, but if there are some ideas I may push for them
Ymir wrote:
I will actively oppose almost everything the president wants to do. Any change I propose would be to revert OT to back when it was a little more than just a shitpost corner.
Reyalp51 wrote:
Don't really have changes planned
burgernfat wrote:
Mostly planning to be reactionary, no real changes I want to bring forth as of now.
sametdze wrote:
i guess reacting
Ashton wrote:
Part of being a good member of parliament is, in my opinion, offering a critical voice to the presidency. In this regard, my intention will not to be overly pro-active in pushing for my own personal wants in Off-Topic, but listening carefully to the denizens and making sure that no piece of legislation is passed by the president without thorough scrutiny. When I was member of parliament years ago (I believe I was apart of the very first OT parliament in Discord) I spent a lot of time scrutinizing the majority opinion.
This does not mean that I will be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian, however. What I mean is simply that every piece of legislation will be critically examined if I am elected member of parliament, and I will defer much of my examination to the voices of denizens.
So, to answer this question, I will mostly react to legislation that is put forward. I do not feel that it is my place to introduce legislation pro-actively without thorough discussion with denizens.
achromalia wrote:
i probably did and will, but my answer would likely be similar to the new-changes-as-president question. but maybe i'll ultimately just be indecisively reacting and writing cumbersone essays abt new developments instead when deliberating/voting on decisions x')
Why are you running?
Karmine wrote:
To keep things smooth and avoid people trying to create drama within the government. That doesn't mean I'm against people proposing changes, just bad actors.
- Marco - wrote:
But seriously, I want to help the government do it's stuff and keep this subforum open and welcoming to everyone
Ymir wrote:
Because Polyspora pulled out like a moron, and since I was always so adamant about changing things back to pre-pata presidency, I figured it would be better if I could keep hating on Pata regardless how effective it would be, only this time in a private group chat. TLDR? I am running because FUCK PotaTo
Reyalp51 wrote:
Because it is fun and because I want to defend innocent shitposters and degenerates, not the bad kind but the funny kind
burgernfat wrote:
Because I believe I can help the parliament reach a consensus that most people will be happy with in case any problems arise.
sametdze wrote:
because i want to
Ashton wrote:
I believe that by running, I give Off-Topic the opportunity to elect somebody with both a passion for RP and practical experience. Not only have I been apart of Off-Topic for nearly an entire decade (that was embarrassing to type out) I also have been a member of parliament in the past. I have experienced many different epochs of Off-Topic, and believe that I can bring immense value if elected.
achromalia wrote:
i mightve had an answer when i first started but i dont really remember anymore beyond some of how i answered the same question in the bid for presidency. i think, in some way, that i was aimlessly gravitating toward this as some form of social duty or fulfillment, a community of people to care about. all other answers seem like secondary pretenses, but this answer also seems inaccurate or imprecise somehow
what did you think about the state of OT?
Karmine wrote:
It mostly depends on people's activity so there isn't much the government could do to make it better but elections drama aside (that was mostly started by people who aren't even active on OT lol) it's good.
- Marco - wrote:
It's ok but i wish there were bigger stuff like it was in the past with projects, contests ecc...
Ymir wrote:
It has always been shit but it was a little more fun when Denizen meant something and was actually something to work towards by making good threads. In reality it stands that it was still always shit but its just a little more shit now because of these recent changes.
Reyalp51 wrote:
Not sure if they mean "did" or "do" lol, 2023 may be the most active fun year in ot that I was in but theres always a lot of biased because of nostalgia, present ot is kind of ok, not terrible but not fantastic either, much more chill and peacefull.
This last year I could not be as active as I used to because of life stuff so my opinion may not be reflecting 100% the forum
burgernfat wrote:
From what I have seen, It's mostly okay. There is drama here and there but it tends to die down pretty fast, so I don't think it's a problem.
sametdze wrote:
fine
Ashton wrote:
I think that OT is actually, broadly speaking, quite alright. I think the drama post (that eventually got wastelanded) has demonstrated that the majority of 'drama' in the community is actually perpetrated by a small number of people, and that on the whole people are generally pretty chill.
achromalia wrote:
oddly, or maybe very predictably, this is a difficult question for the likes of me with my many self-convoluted impressions. i'll try to just speak for myself. i could say ot feels simultaneously alienating and comforting, shallow yet halfway-gratifying, and not as eventful as it could be but not necessarily devoid of activity, which just happens to be activity i cant quite find my way into. lazily, i would piggyback off of some others' answers for both the general and specific scopes of this, probably ashton's most of all
...in a sense, maybe i hoped that by having some role or artificial/superficial duty within the community, this could somehow be shaped differently, and i could somehow find relief or "home" or... something...
my answer could have been more serious and genuinely related, if i hadnt been feeling introspective at the moment, but... idk, i figure anything will do, and whatever happens will happen
What's your best thread?

I have some questions of my own. What happens if 2 or more candidates tie for the last available spot and do we have to use all of our votes when phase 3 comes? (i.e. could I just use my 4 point vote to self-vote or do we have to use all of them)

I don't really hold any sentimental value to any of my threads. But, I think in a weird way I hold this one pretty close: community/forums/topics/483357?n=1
I think the reason is not because it is a 'high effort post' (quite the opposite) but because it was one of my first low effort shitposts. I could put other threads where I put much more time, effort and quality but I don't think that OT is a place where time effort or quality are valued as much as in other subforums. I say that not to devalue other threads here that clearly have a lot of effort spilled into them (Patitta's analysis corner, for example, is a thread that I think is astonishingly admirable) but rather to say that OT has always been about shitposting. I suppose in this regard, I agree wholeheartedly with Reyalp51:
achromalia wrote:
...i barely remember what my threads were, only that some of them would certainly have to have existed somewhere here, at some point in the past
i think i made some threads that were really... something...? when i was a different person
the threads i remember most have been my two art threads, "ot amateur artwork avenue" and the variably-named "ms paint [and a survey of off-topic culture]", but im sure there were others with more communal relevance or gratification
...i imagine most threads were half-baked in practice, even if i had hoped to do something more x')
