If the drain time of each difficulty is...
- cases
- Difficulties lower than the highest difficulty can use their play time as a metric instead of drain time if their drain time is at least 80% of their play time.

The only different between play time and drain time is the inclusion of breaks. This extra condition here implies that >20% of added break time is "too much" for a lower difficulty, yet this is entirely dependent on how the beatmap plays and I don't think it's right to set a hard& arbitrary limit here.

I think this condition is reasonable because it allows the usage of breaks while also ensuring that the majority of the song is still mapped. Otherwise the lower diffs would offer a worse gameplay experience if too many sections are skipped compared to the highest difficulty. If anything, breaks should be allowed in the highest diff too.

sure, and is "too many" == 20% ? why?

also, you're citing a problem that could happen to any beatmap, not just lower difficulties of a spread affected by drain time restrictions. so it should be a separate rule and doesn't belong here

What would you propose in place of 20%? The idea here is that low difficulties are a bit more lenient in drain time requirements, so long as play time reaches the length required for the spread in the spread rules.

for this paragraph, nothing. it should be removed because it restricts break time usage on lower diffs while saying nothing about high diffs. the drain time / play time distinction still accomplishes the point of this rule without the extra condition

a rule should be added elsewhere that defines what is "too much" break time for any map (i.e. idk exactly what is a good replacement ) , because right now I could technically meet all these rules with a 15min song where I only map 5min drain scattered across the song

which seems to defeat the point of both this and the other audio cutting thing I posted about.

im ok with this change. this extra bit is really confusing to interpret so i like simplifying in any way tbh
