http://sourceforge.net/projects/nikkhok ... /1.70.104/ (Latest version 16th September, 2012)

This is an useful tool that reduces the size of files commonly found in beatmaps/skin folders without decreasing image/sound quality at all.

It would be a good idea to use this since this can reduce a beatmap's or skin size by about 10% in average (and even more if the beatmap/skin contains a lot of png images based on what I have tested). If using this tool becomes a common practice before summiting maps there would be a significant reduction in the server load from downloading beatmaps.

Considerations when using the tool
- The tool deletes the metadata contained in files (the title information, artist, year, etc...).

- The program has a few bugs in the current version. The most important ones from what I have seen is unstable behavior when opening multiple instances of the application (so don't do it), and the optimization progress is not interrupt-safe (meaning the files might get corrupted if you force FileOptimizer to close), so it would be a good idea to make a backup of the files before applying the process. There are also a few minor bugs with the GUI that don't affect functionality.

- The optimization process can last several minutes, specially when the beatmap/skin has many .png images.

How to use
- Open the application after downloading it.

- [Recommended] Make a backup of your beatmap/skin folder.

- Drag the folder to FileOptimizer's window.

- Right-click on the list of files and select Optimize.

- Wait for the process to finish (don't interrupt it unless you really have to do it)

- [Recommended] Delete the backup folder after checking everything is fine with the optimization.
