Wanted to propose some changes regarding this rule

Do not qualify beatmapsets whose song already has a Qualified beatmapset, unless no game modes of both sets overlap—this includes remixed versions. For example an osu!taiko and osu! beatmapset of the same song can exist in the Qualified section, whilst an osu!taiko and osu!/osu!taiko hybrid set cannot. This ensures variety among Ranked beatmaps within their respective game modes.

First of all this part: this includes remixed versions

The reasoning for this rule overall was to avoid content bloat and promote variety, especially during the start of a new anime season (shoutout to anime wars). However i always found the inclusion of remixes kinda weird since those often switch genres of the original song and offer a completely different feel to the original. Since they don't really reflect the original intention of the ruling given that they offer a variety from the original songs, i think we could let remixes be qualified at the same time as the original songs.

Which brings me to my second point, clarifying the remixed versions part. Here's a quick rewrite that should be much more clear than simply having remixes, which lead to ppl often asking if full vers are included.

Do not qualify beatmapsets whose song already has a Qualified beatmapset, unless no game modes of both sets overlap. This includes full versions or covers. For example an osu!taiko and osu! beatmapset of the same song can exist in the Qualified section, whilst an osu!taiko and osu!/osu!taiko hybrid set cannot. This ensures variety among Ranked beatmaps within their respective game modes.

ye remixes are usually pretty different, i dont think it should be included. in any case i also think full versions shouldnt be banned if tv size is qualified since it has much different content and player audience than tv size

I completely agree with what celerih has stated. Including remixes in the rule is nonsense. Like if we have an r3 music box of a song and the original song that's super high energy, these clearly aren't the same, wouldn't result in similar player experiences, and aren't really comparable as the "same song" anymore.

That said, there should still be a limit even if remixes are allowed, to prevent people from say, mapping 10 different remixes of Thoughtful Zombie and ranking them all the same week. Even with remixes having too much of one song again and again would be overkill. Would limit to 3 of the song if the maps are different remixes.

Limiting the amount of the remixes makes some sense. Here's like a basic ver of what could be added to the rule

While remixes do not count as the same song, no more than 3 different remixes or versions of a song should be in qualified at the same time.

Wording above seems kinda meh, got any better ideas?

Do not qualify beatmapsets whose song already has a Qualified beatmapset, unless no game modes of both sets overlap. This includes full versions, covers, and up to 3 different remixes of the same song. For example an osu!taiko and osu! beatmapset of the same song can exist in the Qualified section, whilst an osu!taiko and osu!/osu!taiko hybrid set cannot. This ensures variety among Ranked beatmaps within their respective game modes.

does the second bold sentence work? might be hard to interpret so idk

Bold sentence seems p good, at least to me

Wording makes it sound like it's up to 3 remixes that are banned from being qf at the same time which is kind of backwards

how about

Only 3 versions (original and remixes) of a song may be qualified per mode at a time. Different length cuts or simple covers of the same version of a song would be considered one version and can not be qualified at the same time. For example an osu!taiko and osu! beatmapset of the same song can exist in the Qualified section, whilst an osu!taiko and osu!/osu!taiko hybrid set cannot. This ensures variety among Ranked beatmaps within their respective game modes.

The new wording proposed by noffy is confusing to me as I read it similar to "You can have 3 qualified maps of a song at the same time, but no more", adding the word "unique" before versions would fix this.

With this change "would be considered one version" could be changed to "would be considered the same version" to fix that slightly confusing wording also.

nobody responded to Nao's comment (https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/posts/7255112), should cut + full version be allowed in qualified at the same time or not?

otherwise rule looks good to me, we can figure out the English somewhere else...
pishifat
the second bold sentence in noffy's version covers nao's comment (they cant be qualified at the same time)

maybe I have a bowling ball brain

I read the first six words of Noffy's proposal and that inspired me to make my comment about "English" cuz it sounded bad already

& ok sounds good 2 me
pishifat
reading noffy's reword again and im feeling the same confusion that mbomb mentioned. it's probably "versions" could be interpreted as "beatmaps" really easily. an attempt at simpler wording:

Only one beatmap of a song may be qualified per game mode at a time. This includes different length cuts and simple covers of a song, but excludes remixes, up to three different versions of which may be qualified per game mode at a time. This ensures variety among Ranked beatmaps within their respective game modes.

this cuts out the "for example, blablabla" thing from the original rule since it gets too wordy when included imo

does this work better or nah?
Noffy
I think that works well! Better than any of the attempts so far and feels clear in itself 👍

After messing around with the wording, this is now live and can be seen in the BN rules. Huzzah!
