So well, I thought I could make my own ARM based device instead of purchasing slurping and expensive-ish Raspberry Pi.
I'm making a device that will be running as a home media server. I want it to have some flash storage, host my porn, music etc. and be able to stream this shit within 600m area. For this purpose I will also build small extension devices (that will increase wifi range). And surprisingly, it will not run Linux - no. It will run a FreeBSD derivative!
Projected specs
Atmel AT91SAM9G25-CFU
pretty old ARM9 core, but will do the trick . Its maximum clock is 400 MHz. It also features USB, ethernet and SD card controller.
256 MB LPDDR
It doesn't really need much RAM... Or anything faster than LPDDR (Low Power DDR).
512 MB NAND (for OS)
This little piece of NAND will be used to contain the OS itself only.
500 GB 2.5" SATA HDD
Unfortunately, via external controller.
Other than that
SDHC slot
Ethernet 10/100 port
Wi-Fi 802.11n (antenna is external)
2 USB ports (via. built in hub)
This thing is *not* for sale. If you want one, I will post schematics once it's done. I can assemble one for you if you purchase parts too (and pay for ball soldering).
So, I wanna use this thread as sort of a journal. Here comes the first video. ARM9 core has arrived, haha!
