My proposal is to change the guideline
The base slider velocity should be 1.40 throughout all difficulties of a mapset. This is to ensure optimal quantity of notes on the playfield, as well as the optimal distance of separation between different notes.

The base slider velocity should be 1.40 throughout all difficulties of a mapset. This is to ensure optimal quantity of notes on the playfield, as well as the optimal distance of separation between different notes. At lower BPMs this value could be slightly adjusted to higher than 1.40. For songs that follow a swing beat, a base slider velocity of up to 2.10 could be used to ensure the optimal distance of separation between different notes.

I don't really like how I worded it.. so I'd be open to suggestions.
I think this is necessary because mappers already do this, and they're getting ranked. maps at low BPM(around 70-120) sometimes use 1.6 or even 1.8 base slider velocity, because most players tend to hit too early at those low of bpms. Also, maps that follow a swing beat can have 2.1 base slider velocity so that the 1/6th patterning is spaced like 1/4th patterning for easier playability.

I dont think this is necessary.

Adjusting the Base SV will inadvertedly affect the speed at which notes will fly across the screen, which in turn affects the amount of notes on screen at any given time. Especially with swing songs, this becomes a problem.

If you adjust 2.1 BSV in a 180bpm swing song, its equal to 1.4 BSV on 270 BPM. This is quite the dramatic effect and will make it hell to play mods like HR and HD on otherwise normal songs.

Higher difficulties almost always feature SV adjustments via Green lines, so i see no use in enforcing up to 2.1 BSV in swing songs when said optimal distance is inconstant.

There is also no reason to adjust BSV to be higher at lower BPMs. This only decreases the time the player has to react to unnecessarily. If players hit too early due to BSV, they can always adjust their offset, play HR, or simply become better. This is no matter of mapping.

Unnecessary, people already have base SV into account when initially assessing the song. Also everything that Nepuri has said.

I don't agree. I would say keeping at 1.4 is better as a 140bpm swing song and other 140bpm songs are of the same tempo, thus should scroll the same initially. As we already set 1.4 base slider velocity for numerous maps, that speed in particular is like what player expects for given tempo, and as Nepuri said, to put 1/6 visuals in place with 1/4 increases the scroll speed by a lot which doesn't make too much of sense when you think about it. Mappers adjust the slider velocity via green lines afterwards, they are not required to buff the scroll speed only if the song is swingy.

What Nepuri and Faputa said. 1.4x base slider velocity is the anticipated scrolling speed for any bpm. Boosting it up to 2.1x literally breaks how this game mode works regarding optimal distance of separation of different snaps.
