[proposal][taiko] Spinner volume guideline

My proposal is to add the following to the taiko general guidelines:

Reduce the volume of spinners to match the volume of the song. This is to prevent hit sounds from overpowering the music, especially during fade-outs in the music.


this is already commonly followed in the ranked section, this would just cement its place in the ranking criteria.



Yes, there is already a guideline that addresses hitsound volume. It is

Use low volume or silent spinners only when it suits a low volume section of the song. In most other scenarios, having audible hit sound feedback on spinners is highly recommended.


These two guidelines serve different purposes though, my guideline is telling mappers not to use too loud of spinners, while the current guideline is telling players not to use quiet spinners where they aren't appropriate.

seems redudent for me, maybe combine them into one guideline for that
also most of the time, people keep the same volume as the previous part. do you have examples of map having too loud spinners ?

I do agree that they could be combined somehow, but I'm not sure about the wording. For examples, its hard to find any because they all get popped to fix in ranked maps.

This already implies the volume of spinner should match the volume of the song, no matter fade-outs, or low volume sections. I don't see a purpose here when this guideline is already causing spinner volumes in e.g. fade-outs to be addressed already.

If this were to be applied to taiko spinners, it should be applied to every hitsound, in general.

Since having 100% Volume circles in a very silent section in say, a standard map would also be nonsense and would also follow your argumentation. I see no reason why this logic should be constrained to taiko alone.

Having a guideline such as for example (my wording is bad apologies):

"Hitsound volume should be adjusted with respect to the Song's volume. Hitsounds should provide feedback that does not drown out the song, nor is drowned out by the song. Specific game modes list exceptions to this rule on their respective ranking criterias."

If this guideline were to be added, we could get rid of the "silent spinners only for silence" guideline altogether since it is covered in general RC.

Unnecessary and redundant. People use volume for everything so guidelining every little thing mappers can do is borderline obsessive.

Unnecessary to be stressed in taiko general guidelines. Eventually any beatmaps going for ranked are to be following the music properly or the difficulties and music are related, so as volumes in spinners. It falls under the "quality" of the beatmap, hence modders and Beatmap Nominators are the ones to regulate it.

Common sense regarding map quality does not require a guideline, to be honest.

seems like a super general thing that doesn't need strict enforcement? mappers/modders already handle this well enough
