There are several inconsistencies in the current rules

I noticed three inconsistencies in the current ranking criteria. (Edit: peppy pointed out that they aren't(actually 2 out of three are) true contradictions, but are inconsistent. so ignore my word usage please :p )

1. Approved Category is only for Marathon maps. Maps that have are over 4:30 (Draining Time), or have over 18m Max score will be able to be approved, any map that doesn't fit with this will have to go for Ranking, do not be lazy and include a full diff spread.

Mapsets must have at least two osu! standard or Taiko difficulties, one of which must be an Easy/Normal level. Approval mapsets will still need at least 2 difficulties where at least one of them must be osu! standard or Taiko of any level, Marathon length maps may have only 1, but it must be named Marathon for the BSS to allow the submit to pending.

Contradiction: The first rule states that all approvals maps must be marathon difficulties, and the second rule states that approval maps must have at least two difficulties unless they are a marathon. This wouldn't be possible if all approval maps were marathons by requirement for the first rule. (Also the first rule is kind of ambiguous, using the "or" operator. Is a map that scores over 18 million considered a marathon?

2. A mapset cannot have a single Taiko difficulty if you decide to include Taiko in your map, make sure you have at least 2 Taiko mode difficulties and that one of them is of an easier difficulty level if it doesn't have an osu! standard Easy level difficulty.

Contradiction: Approval map requirement says you can have one taiko of any level, when the rule above says that a mapset must have at least two taikos. so an approval map cannot pass with only one taiko and one standard. I don't see why the rules change at all for approval sets over ranked sets. The rules should still be at least two osu standard or two taiko difficulties. One of each just defeats the purpose of creating a fair mapset.

3. General score guidelines:

<10m = Great!
10-14m = Can the mp3 be cut to make it shorter and more fun? if not, then check with an experienced MAT/BAT.
14-16m = Same as above, but check that the difficulty is hard enough that the score is not easily obtainable.
16-20m = Rare cases, for insane difficulties that are long and challenging enough to justify such a high score.
Otherwise: The map needs to go for Approval instead of Ranking.

Approved Category is only for Marathon maps. Maps that have are over 4:30 (Draining Time), or have over 18m Max score will be able to be approved, any map that doesn't fit with this will have to go for Ranking, do not be lazy and include a full diff spread.

Contradiction: The guideline states that 16-20 million is acceptable for a ranked difficulty. but the criteria for approval is over 18 million. When did the high limit for rank go back to 18 million when everyone agreed it should be 20 million?

If these things could be cleared up in a hasty manner. We shouldn't have contradictions in the rules. Also we shouldn't have loopholes in the rules. These rules aren't enforceable in a meaningful way. Score isn't relevant to a marathon map. It's not even relevant to osu anymore.

Okay. There's a lot of ways the rules can be misread and some don't even make sense, and should be clarified. The two taiko rule is barely enforcable and screws with a lot of other rules. The rules are also flatout stating a mapset that must have two difficulties, one of them can be a osu standard or Taiko of any level. How is it any less lazy to ask a taiko mapper to make a guest diff than it is to make a suitable easier version of the map? And due to how its phrased they can make an equally hard difficulty. It doesn't matter how hard the difficulty level is and it definitely doesn't make a more balanced mapset. Why have one pro map when you can now have two pro maps? Why make a full set when it's so much easier to ignore all the rules and go for approved? Even if we have a new set coming, are we just not going to approve any more difficulties until that happens? Not to mention that saying "at least one" is redundant and doesn't need to be included, because there is no other possibly difficulty level that does not satisfy the qualifier "any" level. There's also a comma instead of a period after it.

peppy needs to hurry on this new system, because this ruleset will do nothing but confuse players on what is considered a marathon and what in the future will be considered a marathon.

1. Approval is being phased out, and made into a new category. Details aren't finalised, but it's save to say that unless a map is of marathon length (6mins+) it doesn't have a place in approval.

2. There is overlap, but this isn't a contradiction. It is leeway for edge cases so we can make per-case decisions rather than having hard cut-offs (which make little sense).

That's how I see it anyways :p.

I still think minimum Taiko diff rule is better as Guideline. Not Rule.

General Score Guidelines = removable. Since the change of "approved" maps category.
I remember that a decision was made to REMOVE the score cap (and it CAN be removed) since it was made to avoid score farming from longer maps
