I'm after software that will enable me to catalog my DVD collection (100+ DVD's) containing millions of files into a database file, so I can then open the database file in the program and search through all of the 100+ DVD's for files that I want locate. The features that I require in the software are the following:

1) Ability to search for files contained in zip & rar archives *essential*
2) Explorer style interface for browsing through catalogued DVD's (last modified, file size, file type, file path, etc)
3) Advanced search features with wildcards and fast search results
4) Software works on both Windows XP and Windows 7
5) Software can be either be free or shareware, etc

Thanks. :)

a) Install cygwin and use unix tools (no graphical interface)
b) Use total commander

I'm sure Windows Explorer has the ability to search through zip files though...
Well if that doesn't match, I can write such software for you.

Thanks for your response. :)

The software you recommended is not what I'm after. I'm after software that will enable me to catalog my DVD collection (100+ DVD's) containing millions of files into a database file, so I can then open the database file in the program and search through all of the 100+ DVD's for files that I want locate. I already have a freeware program that can do this called VVV (Virtual Volumes View), however, it does not support the ability to search in zip & rar archives, which is a essential feature that I require.

I've edited my first post in this thread so that my software request is more clear.
