Usually if you press the random button (f2), the random beatmap you get will highlight a difficulty that is most recommended based on your rank and skill level. From there, you can figure out if the maps the random button generates are too easy or too hard and adjust from there.
For example, based on my rank (6k), the random selection brings me to difficulties close to 4.9*. However, I seem to struggle with that difficulty, so with some experimentation, I figured that I have a more comfortable time playing 4.3-4.6* (most likely because I’m over ranked from pp farming Aether Ritual lol). By just playing around and experimenting, you can figure out where you’re comfortable and grow from there.
However, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself with maps at a higher difficulty or try something different. It’s always exciting to take a leap and try to get a good combo on a map with a high star rating and experiment with mods. If you want to challenge yourself a bit, go ahead and give it a shot.
Hope this helps!
(Also, it appears that you have some converts as top plays. While converts are interesting, I’d highly recommend playing maps specifically meant for Taiko when you’re comfortable playing 3* maps. It’ll highly benefit you for higher ranks and help with simple patterns to get you through the so-called “Oni learning curve”.)
