Where there's a 'dah-dah-dah" in the music (e.g. at 00:24:418) it could be a swing rhythm? You might need to use 1/12 beat snap divisor. I'm really not sure. Definitely try to get someone good with timing to help you out there. This issue is basically present throughout both the vampire and bat difficulties, so I'll just mod hitsounds for this difficulties because placements will need to inevitably change.


I'd lower all the volumes in this difficulty by 20% to keep it consistent with Bat.

Found this map randomly on the forum index, thought "hey, I like me some SotN" and gave it a look. I'll ignore the timing... it was good enough for me to playtest. If it still needs work, I'll let others do that work. :P

You've received a lot of specific advice, but I think some general advice could really help you out. I'll be focusing on [Dracula] for this post but the advice should apply to the other difficulties, as well as to other maps you might make.

I've scanned over the mod posts you've received so far, and noticed hitsounds in pretty much all of them. Yet few of them elaborate on why they're making those suggestions, and as this is your first map, that might be something you could use.

Hitsounds shouldn't just sound good on a per-note basis. They should be used to punctuate certain parts of the music, and should generally follow some pattern to build a feeling that you're playing the music, not just tapping circles while the music plays. I bring this up because the hitsounds in your maps feel like they lack an overarching plan.

By the way, while I'm ignoring the strict "what is the correct timing for this beatmap" question, I'd like to address something with timing. Timing that is correct can still feel wrong if the hitsounds are awkward or if you use circles where you should be using sliders (or vice versa). I'll bring up an example here.

00:24:639 (4,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - These circles would be better as sliders. Split this into three sliders: 4-1-2, 3-4-5, and 6-7-8, and place them so their ends lead into each other. The idea is something like this: (pic with explanation in spoiler)

All three of these sliders have repeats on them. There's a whistle on the first circle of each one, giving a pattern that goes like W n n W n n W n n. The cacodemon is my sliderball. :P
(Note: this, and any other screens I post in here, were taken after reducing the AR to 1 to show more things at a time. Don't use AR 1 in the map!)

When to use circles and when to use sliders is something I'm probably not capable of explaining all at once in any way that makes sense to anyone, including myself. It's definitely a thing that comes with experience, both in mapping and in playing.

This post is already pretty long, so I'll just point out one more thing. A lot of the spacing is messy. While I'm not a fan of "perfect" mapping, a little structure would help the map feel a lot more cohesive.

around 00:32:574 - Musically, this is identical to the part in my previous screenshot. Yet, it's mapped so much differently. You can use sliders instead as I suggested before, or if you stick with circles, do these things:

1. delete (2)
2. add a new circle where its endpoint was at 00:32:574
3. new combo on that circle
4. group 1-2-3
5. group 4-5-6

This way, the parts that belong together musically appear together visually.

There's a bunch more I could explain but this post is long enough. Most of what I pointed out here would probably come to you eventually with experience. But damn it, this is music from one of my favorite games, so I'd feel wrong letting this opportunity to help you out slip by.

First of all, what is up with the timing section at 01:45:417? The offset should be 105467. I don't think this is really too necessary anyways unless you really want the last circle to be at 100% volume. It doesn't sound much louder.

  • 00:38:526 (1) It might be better if you bring it earlier to 00:38:305 This is the only place in the difficulty where the timing spacing is this close and doesn't fit with the rest of the difficulty.
    00:44:918 (3,4) It might be better if 3 was a slider and the endpoint of 4 was a circle to follow so it could follow a slider-circle-slider-circle pattern.
    01:06:079 (1) An Easy player may not have time to react to this circle after the spinner.
    01:13:133 This seems like an odd place for a Kiai time. There's not a significant change in the intensity of the Chorus so Kiai time here would seem weird.
    01:24:170 (1,2,3) If you look at 01:27:347 (1,2,3,4) you would see that it starts with a slider, then circle, and so on. But the place where the slider would start for this would 01:23:713 but that is the spinner endpoint. So basically, starting at 01:23:713 and following the main bright red ticks, it would be : spinner endpoint, nothing, circle, spinner, and circle.
    The break from 01:33:248 to 01:38:240 is unnecessary and awkwardly placed.
[Vampire]

  • 00:26:696 (5) This is not distance spaced.
    00:30:811 (1) This doesn't have a finish at the endpoint like at 00:29:047 (1) I'm not sure it this is intentional or not.
    00:34:338 (4) It should end at 00:35:219
    00:40:216 (2) This doesn't have correct distance spacing either. If you want to keep it like this, you should make the spacing at 00:41:097 (4) similar to this.
    00:56:160 (3) This is not distance spaced. Change the spacing of 4 after this.
    01:03:875 (1) I don't think this spinner makes much sense.
    01:25:078 (1) This is not distance spaced.
    See "Bat" about the break.
    01:39:708 (3) This is not distance spaced.

  • 00:46:682 (1,2,3,4,5,6) 3 and 4 is not spaced right and overall, the pattern just looks ugly.

    01:03:875 (1) This spinner is completely unnecessary and doesn't make sense.
    01:06:079 (1,2,3,4,5,6) See the first thing stated in this difficulty.
    01:09:606 (1,2,3,4) Why are these spaced out this far? It doesn't make sense.
    01:12:031 (6) This circle doesn't follow the rhythm at all and is just unnecessary.
    Again, see the past difficulties about the break.

[Taiko Muzukashii]
This map overall was pretty decent, however this has some flaws on the Muzukashii rules, some patterns fit more for an oni than a Muzukashii.
There should be no manipulation of diff settings other than HP and OD, CS has to be set to 5.
Since you seem to stick th the real drum set, I'll give you suggestions to make it like so. Explain if you've refused some patterns.

01:04:322 (1) - spinner plays really bad, it doesnt suit the timing, feels too short for a easy diff and also makes the next combo start at the wrong time, remove this spinner and remap this section to follow the music. new section of the song starts at 01:06:085 - and it needs a note here to help show that
01:26:440 (5,1) - spacing is wrong, these need to be closer and overlapped the show the timing to the new players, at the moment it is abit too close to your normal spacing making it abit confusing to read for a easy, not advised so yea needs fixing
