There was this skinning trick i found a while ago. It basically changes the approach circle to a black rectangle with the opacity set to 50%. Here was the result:

Although some fast streams eventually turn the whole screen 90% black, the "mod" is a good way to spend some time. There's also this nice effect where the screen flashes for a bit when a circle is clicked.
I hope this becomes a mod one day.
If you want to try it out:
1. Open osu!
2. Click on "settings"
3. Scroll down and find "Open current skin folder"
- You can copy paste the skin folder and rename it so that you can switch to the skin without the mod later.
4. Replace "approachcircle.png" or "approachcircle.jpg" with this file: https://imgur-archive.ppy.sh/discord/458227652663443457-575614485801336833-approachcircle.png
5. Go back to osu! and switch to the skin. Have fun!
