Let's have a civilized thread about our non-osu! related musical faves (so preferably no Vocaloid, anime OP/ED, Nightcore, the rest of the stuff you'd find here). If there's any other Japanese music aside from that, feel free to post about it! Share your favourite genre, or just some stuff you've been digging lately. Links to song samples on youtube are appreciated!

I'll start off: Favourite genre - Alt. Rock
Favourite artist - Radiohead/Porcupine Tree

I've been really into Nujabes lately too, RIP ;_;

Here's to some good times in the new music subforum ^^
Stefan
since Genre and Band/Artist are two different things, this thread should renamed for one thing.

I like Death Metal, mainly Melodic Death Metal (Dark Tranquillity, Scar Symmetry, Eternal Tears of Sorrow and so forth), some other metal genres (namely power metal and some metalcore). Electronic/Trance is also dear to me, progressive trance is just marvelous. Other electronic genres I listen to include Happy Hardcore, Chiptune, Gabber and Hardstyle.

Also, violins. Godtier stuff.
Dafydd
Classical (Piano solos and other orchestra shizz)
Pop music (Michael jackson) and some modern pop
Rock
Rantai
Instrumental/Orchestrals are the best.

I have a soft spot for love songs too though.
Stefan
Rock, Drum'N'Bass, Videogame Themes, also Trash. lol
Azure_Kite
I like Instrumentals, especially Piano and Violin.

I'm also into Alternative J-Rock, so artists like ONE OK ROCK and Asian Kung-Fu Generation appeal to me.
Mianki
I download every now and then ORICON SINGLE Weekly Ranking TOP50/TOP20 where I find my new findings :P
Pizzicato
anything except death metal
Valentiino
I can't pick my favourite genre. Way too many of 'em

Recent finds (artist): Pogo (glitchy relaxing trip hop
Genre: Not a recent one, but still the latest (long time ago) moombahton

I've had a lot of phases, but I've been mostly into hardcore (the punk-hardcore, not the hardcore one sees in osu usually). Also deathcore, metalcore, whatevercore. Yes, those silly crazy bands that have breakdowns instead of guitar solos that TRVE METAL fans hate. Fell in love after I started going to underground shows of the kind, the whole community is awesome and the energy let out makes me feel like I need these to live. I liked a lot of pop-punk bands and nu-metal when I started getting into music (mostly bands I feel embarassed of now!) so I feel that getting into this stuff was sort of going up a step. I had an ol'metal phase too, but now the only metal I don't find boring is if it's some progressive stuff with -core elements (between the buried and meeeeeeee) or black metal with bad sound quality.

Oh and out of the heavy music topic... like the first post, Radiohead is my favorite band. I feel that no matter what genre I get into, I'll always come back to these guys. Gonna watch them live the first time this summer, waited years for this chance.
White stripes and Portishead are also up there. But yeah like I said I'm not great with genres so I don't know what to call these last ones except "favorite bands".

Holy crap, are you me?

I went through a huge BTBAM phase, and I still love them to this day. Progressive metalcore in general is great.
And dude, you're so lucky to be going to a Radiohead concert *jealous*
JonnyThatJonny
ahaha ;_; it's been more than 10 years since Radiohead came to Portugal, wasn't really expecting so as soon as it was announced I rushed for a ticket. Had the chance to see BTBAM live 2 years ago too in a really small spot (actually a boat!) in my hometown, was still my favorite live show until now. I really wish I could've seen white stripes live though, and now that they broke up I lost faith hnnng

Anyone into Jazz or related genres? I've been to small live shows and whatnot, I really enjoy this type of music in certain times/moods, but I barely know anything about it except from probably the most known songs there are (night in tunisia etc) which were mostly from my guitar lessons.
I noticed I need this after I started to get really into touhou jazz arrangements.
Papi Bear
Anything except totally weird songs.. Example is the U.N. Owens was Her Remix on the beatmap approved list. That one that has the most plays.. And with that clown with big shoes.. Who was that? '_'

Oh yeah, modal jazz is one of my favourite genres. If you're planning to listen to it, start with some Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Blakey etc. Dave Brubeck is also really good.

Yes, yes, yes. I love Jazz and everyone thinks it's weird since I listen to Noise, Speedcore and Breakcore mainly.

Ah, Merzbow. I just can't get into noise/harsh noise, I find nothing redeeming about it.
