Why? When making hitsounds, you want to be able to hear what the music sounds like. If the normal/soft samples are loud, they sometimes disturb you from hearing what's really being heard.
What I usually do is go to Timing where no hitsounds are heard, but instead you will hear the metronome ticks.

I hope I'm not the only one who finds other sounds but the music disturbing when trying to figure out which hitsound to use.

Do you know how time consuming and annoying that is?

keep inherited timing sections out of this.

Maybe we could add a key binding for raising/lowering the effect volume.

That would work even better

if you cant hear it

stop trying to put sounds on it

alternatively, if it's one specific section you're wondering about
you can select, delete, listen, undo

I do precisely that all the time, it's become instinct to me. I honestly forgot what I did when I had a bit of trouble, since i've not had this problem in recent memory due to reactively doing that.

so are you going to [invalid] this or what?
Shiirn
Not really, since it might still be applicable. Buuuut in your case, it's resolved.
