The situation

Pretend you're put into this situation and tell me what your actions would be. Please no illogical answers, answer seriously.


You've somehow ended up in a foreign country unaware of how you got there.
It's a very rural part, and you can't identify the villages language and the villagers can't identify yours.
There are only dirt trails and there is no electricity, reception, or wifi.
Some things you have are the clothes on your body and 2 1/2 inch knife.
The people sustain themselves with the crops they grow and resources within the jungle near the village.
There's limited supplies, the villagers aren't entirely open towards housing you.

1.) How would you get back home, and how long do you think it'd take?
2.) If you're unable to get back home within a week, what would you do as a means of survival?

*To make things easier, if you want, you can include things that you already own back at home. But you must pretend you weren't prepared for this situation.

you've got a knife, which is pretty much everything you need.

steal some crops for sustenance while you figure out where you are, erect a rudimentary shelter near a supply of marginally fresh water (could use the irrigation supplies for the crops)

then basically survive for long enough to amass enough supplies to take a random trek across one of those dirt trails in the hope of finding civilisation

worried about the animals that lie near the jungle?some do come out at night I would think.
Do you think your blade is enough to handle a attack? There's always some form of animal that can potentially harm you, mountain lion, panther, etc.
would you be able to sleep with being concerned about night preditors?

You pretending that you've never visited this thread is like you pretending you're not in the unreal situation I was describing. Not very good survival skills but I could understand why a person would be in this kind of shock.

The villagers aren't too happy about that, a group of them comes towards you and starts talking to you in their unknown language. They seem upset and want there goods back.

if both you and villagers have arms, you can explain something basic even without words. though if they are hostile there's no way you can fight them with a mere knife. you should get/steal some supply of food and look for a river. then just follow down the river.

Are you confident that gesturing yourself will provide a good form of communication?
Following a river down stream on foot? like walking next to it and going along with it?
or creating a raft, either way there poses risks with that.

Most likely the river would be located within the jungle, do you feel prepared with the food you can only carry, that you've stolen?
You may or may not find a river, evening may occur before you find one.

At first I would attempt to create communication with the locals using what I would consider to be commonly recognized body language and signals. The chances of this succeeding on any level are extremely slim, if it was to highly succeed I would try to inquire about other tribes that they know of preferably larger ones due to the increased chances of it being a recognizably civilized one. If it was to partially succeed, I would try to spend more time among them with the intent to observe and pick up on their techniques of survival. If it doesn't work at all they will either see it as an attempt to open up peacefully or they will just be suspicious of me, since they didn't kill me outright the former is a slightly more likely scenario. Due to their nourishment being from crops and jungle resources the chances of them being cannibals are fairly low although still significant, still the chances of surviving by myself are much lower.

If predators were prominent in the area the locals would have defensive weapons, I would attempt to acquire one or learn how they make them. Stealing crops from them probably wouldn't end well and I would rather observe what food they acquire from the jungle, this helps to decrease the risk of poisoning myself and the risk of attempting to hunt animals without having any knowledge about the jungle.

If I get to the point where I have successfully adapted to my new surroundings and can sufficiently sustain myself I would then begin to search for signs of civilization.

But anyways, I'd go to one of the locals and learn the art of shape shifting. I'd then transform into a damned falcon and fly my ass out of there, and start a new falcon family.

Indeed they're wondering about you as they know you're not the same ethnicity as them. They see you want to learn their ways but they're pretty sensitive to the idea of you making a weapon. They wouldn't know if the weapon you attempted to make was for defensive purposes. They see you look confused and don't know how to deal with you, they assume you're visiting. If you wanted to join them you would have to spend a week without directly participating in their activities. As you produce your own shelter and food they may feel a need to help if you seem like you're struggling. After a week you would have to relate to their culture and prove to them that you want to learn more about survival in this area.
Though you're stuck in the situation of a miss understanding of them thinking that you want to stay there forever and become part of the village. The more you learn and feel a part of them, the more they think you will stick with them.
Note that the longer you stay, the more knowledge you gain. You may not find what you need to get out of there after a long time. and leaving could be betraying them.

That doesn't always turn out so well. Sure if you managed to convince them that you're a worthy person they could potentially hold you as a leader of their village. however there are some cultures where they sacrifice their leaders to the real gods they believe in on their minds.They're keeping an eye on you and escaping would be difficult at this point.

you mentioned yourself that villagers are feeding themselves with crops they grow so i'm sure there is a water source nearby. you can spend up to several days building a raft using only the knife you have though, but going down the river on it is a lot faster and easier than walking.

Yeah you can use the raft to get to the mouth of the river and walk along the coast till you find a port. Voila, civilization.

water sources aren't always rivers. If you have little experience with building a raft, building a stable one may take longer than you think. Also depending on the current, you might run into trouble with flipping over and falling into the river or riding into a big rock in your way.

Well, make a first impression first before communicating to them... If they wear no clothes and they smell horroble, take your clothes off and roll on the dirt. In that way, they probably give you a good impression. Leave your knife if you feel that they'll think that you will kill them if you have that knife

I disagree. If I was sitting with some friends and some other random guy who we don't know wearing normal clothes and stuff sat with us we'd be suspicious of him. If someone walked up to us in a space suit or wearing something which we hadn't seen before it would spark curiosity among us and we would want to interact with them.
