I did some testing, and want to share a few key facts about the FL mod. First I'll just copy what you can read on the Wiki page.
To measure this, I played a map with a completely white background and took screenshots at the 0x, 100x and 200x combo. I used a skin with all transparent gameplay elements, so you can only see the white background. I used 1920x1080 resolution.
I then copied out the white circles, centered them and placed them on top of each other. This is the result. The widths are given in pixels.

When you're trying to memorise a map, it's usefwl to copy out specific parts of the map (start, middle 1, middle 2, end, etc.) so that you can practice each part individually. But if you start the "End" practice difficulty with the FL mod, your FL area will start out being big, which it won't be if you had built a higher combo earlier in the real difficulty. So you want to have some way of making the FL area equal the size it is at at 200x combo, from the very start of the difficulty.
-GN does it by creating a really fast buzzer that gives you instant 200 combo at the beginning of the custom practice difficulty. Nephasth created some custom FL cursors that do the same, but I tested them and found that their visible area do not match the visible areas that FL mod gives you at 100x and 200x combo (on my resolution at least), and their edges fade differently. So I made my own.
• cursor FL at 0x
• cursor FL at 100x
• cursor FL at 200x
These were made from the screenshots of the actual FL mod at 0x, 100x and 200x, which I linked to earlier in the post. Since they were made from the screenshots, they should look exactly the same as the FL mod as long as you turn off automatic cursor size in the options and set cursor size to 1. I tested it with screenshots to make sure the cursor sizes match up exactly with FL area sizes. The cursor size scales with your resolution, so it doesn't matter whether you use them with a 1920x1080 res or a lower resolution, as long as the aspect ratio is the same. You have to set CursorExpand and CursorRotate to 0 in your Skin.ini, otherwise the cursor will behave weirdly. Most custom skins already have these set to 0.
Also, you can obviously take out my cursor in the middle and substitute your own.
Enjoy!
The visible area will become smaller at 100 combo and again at 200 combo; returning to its original size if the combo is broken. When holding the slider ball to a slider path, the visible area will also darken until the slider is completed.Note: The FL area does not reduce when you hold a slider, it just gets darker. You can increase gamma on your monitor to counteract this.
Key fact 1
The radius of the FL area decreases to roughly 80 % with 100 combo, and roughly 60 % with 200 combo. To measure this, I played a map with a completely white background and took screenshots at the 0x, 100x and 200x combo. Key fact 2
The Flashlight area lags behind your cursor.Key fact 3
You can use a custom FL cursor that reduces your field of vision to equal the size of the FL area at 100x or 200x combo. When you're trying to memorise a map, it's usefwl to copy out specific parts of the map (start, middle 1, middle 2, end, etc.) so that you can practice each part individually.
