I found a bear and was looking to make one of those big ass rugs to put in front of my fire place, any advice on how to go about doing so would be much appreciated :D

First two question..

1) Is it a cub?
2) Is it still alive?

Thank you, and best of luck in your plans.

Its full grown and it is indeed still alive. I have it in my shed out back and have been feeding it ground beef for the past 2 days. I tried asking one of my friends about it and they got really mad and mentioned something about it being "inhumane" or whatever so I decided to ask here.

Why not buy a done one? You sure you want to go through the emotional trauma of butchering a bear? Just look at it:

Butcher? Nono you've got it all wrong. All I want to do is knock it out and cut off all its skin for my own personal benefit. I'll release it back in to the wild when I'm done of course, I'm no monster.

Plus buying one already done doesn't have the same sentimental value as doing it yourself.

That bear is just gunna die without its skin. How are you going to deal with the fact that you murdered an innocent bear

What do you mean? Skin grows back you dummy, I should know I took an anatomy class in high school.

Plus look, these animals do just fine without their skin:

I think you are confusing "skin" for "fur". This is what a cat looks like with no skin:

See, now I understand where the problem is. The term you are referring to is flesh. Flesh is the layer underneath the skin, the part that protects everything else on the inside. No don't worry I would touch that part, I wouldn't want to hurt the poor thing after all. I feel bad enough keeping it in my shed.

Ah! But you see, skin is flesh. But if not, then what is hair and fur?

Hair/fur would be the little strands that stick out of the skin layer! You see, the skin layer sits right on top the flesh layer. Its usually not very thick and peels apart very easily from the flesh layer. This is how some animals shed their skin all in large pieces every so often. Though in most creatures it just flakes off in very tiny sections, like on humans.

OK, here is some actual help. Skinning the bear will kill it, no matter what. Either from the pain or the loss of blood, skinning will kill it.

Now that that's out of the way, the best way is to get a knife and skin it how you would skin a rabbit. If you don't know how, here's a video.

It'll take a bit longer, though.

Good luck,OP, and keep us posted.

Apologies for going a bit off topic, but what kind of shed do you have?

Okay guys, so I have an update. Had a bit of an incident this morning while trying to feed Connor. When I slid open the door to give him some breakfast and his morning paper the little bastard managed to slip out past me and get into my back yard! Now mind you, in these past few days me and him seem to have formed a pretty good bond, so I wasn't too worried about him hurting me. No, I was more worried about the fact that I live in the middle of a suburban neighborhood and trying to explain my friend to my neighbors would prove to be quite difficult if he got put of my yard. So I chased him around for a half hour or so and finally managed to corral him back into the shed. Thankfully my fences are pretty high so I dont think anyone saw him. I'm more worried about the horrible sounds he was making whenever he charged at me. He seemed very determined to get close to me, but I just wrote that off as him wanting to play to get rid of some pent up energy.

Now back to business. I decided to do a little more research last night before going to bed, so I went to google. After a little searching I wound up on some site called "Furaffinity." Now let me tell you, the title of that site is VERY misleading. What I assumed was going to be a site dedicated to fur/animal skin fans who could offer me some help was something else entirely. Enter at your own risk.

I gave up after that fiasco and went to sleep. Today after the breakfast situation I have spent the whole day today thinking about what you all have told me. Why are you all so sure that making this rug will hurt Conner? I've seen these rugs all over the place yet at the same time there are still so many bears living their lives out there. Surley a single bear can produce many rugs? I just don't understand.

As for the type of shed I have, I'm not quite sure of the exact model or brand. I got this house from my grandpa a while ago and the shed was already there when I moved in. This is what it looks like though:

Just with a sliding door and a little less rust.

First read over johnmedina999's last post.

Second, if you happen to find a giraffe as well, we need him alive.

Thank you.

Just realized I'd forgotten to give you all the exciting conclusion to this whole event. I'm sure you were all just dying for an update so I'm sorry to keep you waiting. I ultimately decided this was all too much effort too pull off so I decided to just buy a rug at Wal-Mart.

Connor? Oh we had a very tearful goodbye before I brought him back to where I found him. Part of me wanted to keep him, I mean he is family at this point, but the other part of me knew he probably already had a family of his own. So he's gone, but I will never forget him :(
