I had an idea that I thought I would post, but given that this "gameplay element" is absent in the EBA/Ouendan series, I'm wondering how well it'll go over with everyone.

Well, you've got your standard tap beats, you've got your sliders, and you've got your spinners; those are the three supported note types. I don't know if this is in any other rhythm games, but I've been pondering a fourth that I call "Flickers".

"Flickers" are similar to standard tap beats in that they're just a small disc-shaped target, but rather than tapping them to make them explode, you click and hold onto them, and then flick them with the cursor to send them toward the edge of the window (possibly in a beatmapper-specified direction), causing them to explode when they connect.

This idea is of course not without flaws. I realised two things when writing this idea up:

1 - there'd probably need to be new graphical objects added to every existing skin for Flickers
2 - Timing on a Flicker isn't as straightforward as it is with a beat or slider.

...Oddly enough, while writing that second issue, I came up with a second approach to this. Rather than flick the note, you could slice it =D! Click and hold outside of the note, and then quickly drag the cursor through the note to explode it with the beat!

So yeah I realise everyone's probably happy with how the mechanics and gameplay are now, but I'm curious to see what people's input on something like this would be.

This idea reminds me of Mines in ITG.

It's an interesting concept, and my provide some fun, but it's not needed.

That actually sounds similar in (terms of gameplay) to the slider-type-things in Nodame Cantabile DS. They're not that different from sliders, really.

Personally, I'm against adding new elements to the game.

I wouldn't mind it as much. I wouldn't ever use them, but that wouldn't mean that I'm against it.

I was thinking that a new beat could be something like a drum roll from donkey konga, you just click a beat as many times as possible and then could get spinner-type bonuses.

As if we're not all suffering from enough RSI already

you gotta think up things that are fun but not intrusive
i've thought about something like a square that starts at the size of the screen and gets smaller until it touches the center, where you gotta hit a key like spacebar. of course this is always on the background, and must be timed
