Making a beatmap!

So I was playing osu the today and all of a sudden I just wanted to make a beatmap.
A few months back I attempted to but my friend said it was too hard so I gave up,but right now I really want to make a beatmap.
I've looked at the youtube videos on how to get the right timing and such but it only helped me understand a bit of it.
So if you have any tips or steps as to how to make a beatmap please tell.

Also I've been looking at the forum and it seems that you ask other people to help you mod the beatmap.
Can someone tell me what that refers to and what it means?

Heya, you should read (if you didn't do it already) read the FAQ, many questions get answered in there.
Look for anything useful in this forum: viewforum.php?f=56

If you need help with timing, skins or whatever, feel free to ask members of the MAT to help you, that's what they are here for.
Once you've finished a map, you should write mod requests in this forum: viewforum.php?f=60 , you should read the rules of each queue before postiing in them.

If you don't know what or how to map, it's always a good idea to play a lot of different maps and then take a deeper look at them in the editor mode, it'll help you gather ideas.

The most important of all however is a lot, A LOT of patience. Mapping a map usually takes many hours and getting them ranked can take from anywhere to a day (extremely rare) to a year or even longer. If you can't afford the time or the will to wait so long then you should probably refrain from mapping.

good mapper : submit > spam stars > spam mod que > plead everybody > plead every MAT > spam MATs > spam BATs > ranked

famous mapper or MAT/BAT , submit > ignore mods >nazi changes > ranked
