Currently any hit, early or late will be displayed as a 100 or a 50, with no indication of which way you are off, other than the hit accuracy bar at the bottom of the screen. While the hit accuracy bar is useful for replays or slower sections, it's not feasible to check the bar in the middle of a long stream (for instance) to find out whether you're early or late, and you often have to just weather it out until something rhythmically separate comes up.
By allowing early and late hits to be skinned differently, it can help players adjust their rhythm in busier denser sections, and also gives players a secondary in-game visual aid for early or late hits. It will also help give players more of an indication as to mistakes they are making when using the perfect mod, as currently, the game does not give the player enough feedback about the kind of mistake they made when they are playing a map with this mod.
Obviously, this would be a completely optional skinning feature. The standard 50's and 100's skinning for any miss-hit will still be available. Maybe use file names such as hit50-early, and hit100-late, etc.
