Noticed we didn't have one in video games yet, so decided to make one.

So post your favourite video game music, everything is fine.(preferably original vgm, but remixes are fine too if you tell the source of it)
Hopefully we'll discover some not so popular vgm too!

I'll start with some of my favourite ones:

This one plays in the central tower in Summon Night: Swordcraft story(GBA), nice peaceful song and it reminds me of some song i've heard already but can't come up with what it is. It sounds a bit like some finnish schlager/religious chant/classical piece lol i don't know.
The game it is from is also really underrated and played.

This one is a last battle in Estpolis/Lufia:Curse of the Sinistrals(NDS).
I honestly think they made quite good job in remaking this epic theme. There are also some other tracks you might want to check out, like remake of Gades battle theme.

Mega Man X, best video game soundtrack ever
props go to Chrono Cross, Katamari and Persona 4

12 years running.

- FFXI - This is one of the reasons why I like Shantotto, I absolutely love the theme music of her fight. It's a shame I never got the opportunity to play the game :<

It kind of reminds me of Waltz to the Moon

There is one other but I can't remember it for the life of me, might edit if I can remember its name.

For a collective whole:

- Almost the entire Banjo Kazooie/Tooie soundtrack

- The vast majority of FFVIII and FF Crystal Chronicles (Original/Crystal Bearers) songs

Yes, I really like Final Fantasy songs.

Edit: Did I really just put in 13? How embarrassing.

If a song has women singing crazy choral shit in it, I'm all over it.

There totally was a VGM thread 2 years ago.
Not my absolute favourite songs, but they're up there:

I browsed thru whole thread and i couln't find anything other than the thread where ppl talked how important vgm is to them in games.

Anyway, I see some really nice tracks here.
I kinda have always wanted to play Chrono cross because its awesome ost, but never had chance to. I've heard it's quite great rpg too.
Final fantasy music is always great, and i haven't heard these pieces before now. Also a bit surprised that song quality was good in "mmo" final fantasy too.

I think this belongs to here as well.

LunarSakuya
Touhou Doujin music :D

And Tales of seires or anything arranged by Motoi Sakuraba :)

Potential for anything from VVVVVV

Fear Factory from Donkey Kong Country

Pokebis
It's like a combo of idiots.

Anyways, I am rather fond of the FF7 OST. I know it's generic, but I enjoy listening to every single song in the game and the tunes it uses actually sets the mood really well.
I also like more pop-out OSTs like Mad World and TWEWY.

Hell yes. Then again, this is how I feel about Covenant's OST in general.

The music in Shadow of the Colossus was actually rather brilliantly composed, and fits the game to a T.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon also has one of the most underrated soundtracks in gaming. Comprised mostly of solo piano pieces, it adds a demure touch to the entire experience. Even when not using just piano.

Too many game soundtracks for me to list all of my favourites.

Yoshi's Island, final boss, no items. No really, this is probably one of the most epic boss battle songs I ever listened to. The rest of the music in Yoshi's Island is also great and fun, and it contributes to the fact that it's my favourite game ever, but this very theme is like woah. It's the reason why I was so bloody scared of that boss battle when I was younger and the reason why I love the battle now.

mathexpert
this is so nostalgic for me, and it cheers me up ~

also, pretty much all of mother 3.

Post more obscure stuff.

My favourite game soundtracks are Portal 2 and Yoshi's Island. For completely different reasons :P..
Meikyuuiri Tsumi
Anything from Nobuo Uematsu, ZUN, Yoshitaka Hirota, Yasunori Mitsuda, Miki Higashino, Masashi Hamauzu, Junya Nakano, all composers who did music for Metal Gear Solid, and many more from other game composers(whose names I can't remember at the moment).

Really outstanding pieces of art.

nifflas's ambient music is so lovely..
also souleye, ZUN of course
bmin11

Actually, I like almost all of Talesweaver's BGMs :D
Mogsy
ZUN is overhyped. Repetitive to a fault, alternating between one of two or three melodic progressions and just throwing a flurry of notes in between to try to make up for it. Yeah, I'm judging only ZUN's original work, as the majority of Touhou remixes at least try to sound different.

Also, Flower's music is beautiful.
Dieathan
I like a lot of game soundtracks but I guess the beatmania IIDX games would have to be one the better soundtracks I've heard recently. I'm a bit of a fan of Koji Kondo's works though and I really like the soundtracks to the Metal Gear Solid games.
I can think of tons more I like but what's here in this post will do for now.
Rantai

Oh, forgot to mention this one. Original or orchestral, this piece is beautiful.
Ivalset
Damn, you have good taste Rantai. Twilight over Thanalan is the best (though I like the original more).

Some nice, nice music here. Underrated music is often the best. And to me, almost all orchestral game music makes me feel chill in spine. Too bad that music is from the MMO and not from the traditional ff rpg game. And I also remembered, that C64 games had some awesome BGM too, take for example Last Ninja's central park theme:

I really like the variety in this track, like it had many parts in it.

Pokemon Red/Blue Route 1

ahh . .
my fav vid game music

marisabelbiri
Well, Tekken 5 has a pretty cool music on.

Also, Touhou Danmaku's game soundtracks.
Persona 4 and Persona 3 soundtracks are awesome too.
Mogsy
Quality Persona music, you say?

Ivalset

It's a fucking tragedy that I can't play this in rm3.

Having gone through attempting many games and game genres during my life, I find it hard to compile a big list of VGM pieces that are truly amazing to me. Can only name a few from the top of my head right now:

- Pokémon R/B/Y - Bicycle Theme (GB)
12-13 years later, I still find myself tooting amusingly to this song. It's fun and cheery, feels as if I'm riding a bicycle joyously myself! :)

- NiGHTS Into Dreams... - Growing Wings (Saturn)
When dreams are taken over by a menacing nightmare and you, the player, witness the main character NiGHTS being sealed away by the evil mastermind, having therefore no choice but to leap into endless demise to try to call forth a night... this tune rises up, in total surprise, reminding us there are endless possibilities within our own dreams.

One of the most awestruck videogaming moments to me. And this tune conveys those feelings to me over and over again. Out of context it may not look as good due to the Saturn's limitations, but personally it's just a big hit to me, one of those one-time moments where you feel everything fits together naturally and yet wonderfully.

- Xenoblade Chronicles - Unfinished Battle (Wii)
Boy... last time I remember hearing Yoko Shimomura's work was in the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I was pleasantly surprised when I knew he was responsible for some of the more memorable tunes in the JRPG Xenoblade. I like the whole OST, but Unfinished Battle, with or without context, sounds like the one that makes me want to jump into action to bash some over-sized Mechon the most.

I want to give a mention to SoulEye and his VVVVVV project as well. Those music pieces are remarkably expressive, it's like retro-style got reinvented!
Dafydd
Final Fantasy VII - Fighting - One of the best compositions I've ever heard for a VGM. It really sounds good for its time. And to add,
Super Mario Bros. 2 Overworld Theme - This one's very underrated. I like this better than the 1st and 3rd Mario bros. themes. :D
Final Fantasi VIII - Eyes on Me (Piano Ver.) - Very emotional.
I like classics~
Vish024
Ocarina. 'nough said.

This song from FFVII still makes me eargasm and stuff. When I was little and was playing the game, only in the last dungeon would I stop exploring, press triangle to enter the menu and just listen the music for a while.

wule
always cry whenever I hear this BGM ;_;

For rap fans, I think this would catch your taste. :D
PARAPPA THE RAPPER!

Quake 2

Air Combat

Both games have an excellent soundtrack.
Pimpi
•TLOZ. Skyward Sword (current favorite soundtrack, it has +300 tracks, lots of different tunes)
•Fragile Dreams Farewell Of The Moon. (chilling, dark but calm)
•Final Fantasy. (almost every games has nice music)
•No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2 Desperate Struggle. (something different, very original if you listen non-remixed and different tracks)
•Metroid Prime and Metroid Other M. (misterious and futuristic ambient music)

PS: Will post more if I remember from the lot of games I've played since always.

Touhou Music! :>

Ratchet & Clank had some great soundtracks that always sutied the setting or map.
