folder options in song selection

I might have mentioned this in another topic but here's some more thoughts about it:

You subdivide your songs into folders in your /songs/ folder, and Osu would recognize the folder structure, allowing you to open up folders for more convenient browsing.

There could be a checkbox that determines whether filters are global, or whether they apply to the currently active folder only

Additionally, you could add support for shortcuts. This could be useful if, say, your osu songs folder is quickly becoming the folder you open for music most of the time. You could create shortcuts to the songs and then move all those mp3s to your standard music folder.

Also, it's probably in the pipeline already, but an in-client beatmap download process would be neat, too.

This is already setup internally - I just havent added it into the UI yet. Can expect to see it in the next week :).

Actually been considering this since before public release. Still not sure about whether I want to provide that level of integration for a few reasons (legal, not as much community involvement outside the game) but maybe we need to start a discussion about this and see what people have to say. Feel free to start a thread about this in particular if you can be bothered!

Well if it's community integration that we're talking about, I know it's a real pie in the sky idea, but I'm surprised I still haven't seen it yet (anywhere, really):

How about an integrated forum? Like, when somebody posts, it's updated in real time and everything. Of course, this would be insane unless you were really good with php in addition to your standard repertoire or mad coding skills, but like I said I haven't seen a hard-coded realtime forum, despite how good an idea it sounds like on paper.

Isn't that just like chat? You can use the integrated IRC client in the new release (press F8) if that's what you mean.

No, I mean a function that is exactly like this forum, taps into the same database, everything. But it's hard-coded and realtime, so when I post a thread, and you're viewing the forum I posted the thread in, a thread will suddenly appear.

Like I said, really pie-in-the-sky for now, but I haven't seen it done before, despite how good an idea it sounds like.

As for the concept, have you seen upppy? This is one of my older projects which is a realtime image board.

Not sure how this would work with osu, but I'm always for further integrating stuff, so lets see what the future has to hold.
