An Idea that just came into my mind, found it nowhere yet, but I hope to don't waste your time with it.
When you play osu in widescreen the background-image of a map get's centered, all pictures stayl 4:2 wich i understand (used to play osu in 4:3 for a long time bevore getting a new monitor)
but it looks a bit unfinished doesn't it? My Idea was a little effect I often use for including pictures in wallpapers where they don't realy fit, it's done by creating a layer below the picturelayer, wich includes the picture itself, then using a gaussian blur drawing some kind of "fade out" to the picture while stil keeping it clear.
I think it would not be to hard to acomplish and fit to pretty much every background-image that could possibly exist
an example for this effect would be: http://up.ppy.sh/files/example-6.png
