I play without one, kinda distracting when i play full mods easy maps 
But sometimes having cursor tail is good too.

Cursortrail isn't a big issue. The real question is how do you play with circles being left behind when you click a note?

I just use the default cursortrail, but with a really small cursor.
Doesn't really matter if I use cursor trail or not as I play every mode but standard these days
