[resolved] beatmap downloads are corrupted

Problem Details:
downloaded today
most (30 out of 34 attempted downloads) beatmaps end up corrupted and moved to the 'failed' folder, using both osu!direct or downloading from the webpage
tried deleting database files, failed folder, and resetting folder permissions but no dice

had the problem on stable, so I switched to beta. should I switch back?

I suggest doing so, as beta would be a little more bugy since it's a development build.
I also suggest in using a VPN
  1. You can try using a VPN like [lucky:1337]Psiphon[/lucky:1337] and see if it works from there
    Just download from the website and open it, after it connects try again.

using a vpn worked, and is super weird since I'm in the US and used a vpn server in another part of the US
