"Hello? It's me. El Psy Congroo. There's many threads of general anime discussion and no threads about series. Could it be a plot of The Organisation? I'll frustrate their efforts and make a thread about the choice of Steins;Gate! BWA HA HA HA HAAAA!"

So, Time travel shenanigans, crazy scientists and a bunch of weird girls (also a SUPAH HAKAH). Pretty much NOTHING goes on in at least the first five episodes, yet somehow I wasn't bored. That was a good sign.

I am possibly the only person annoyed by "Tu-turuu~!"

I want to say more stuff but I'd rather break it down in replies later.

Please mark any spoilers, especially if it's plot stuff from the video game that's not been seen in the anime yet.

Now post, KURISSSTEEENA!

I laughed at every single "could you say that one more time" joke so far and I feel ashamed for that.

I giggled at the trio reaction to that confession.

The lab crew is taking the whole changing the past thing pretty lightly, not to mention taking Okabe on his word that the past is changing and only he can remember it. He has no proof, and somehow even KURISSSTEEENA has no trouble believing it. Still, I guess we don't have time to waste on any of that.

Rest of the episode was LOLARIOUS. The time travel plot hints at grimdark down the road, but it seems so far away right now!

I'd like to know where all of you get to watch it from...

I just googled "watch steins gate online" and picked one of the first results. In other words, some streaming site.

DDL from HorribleSubs.

I haven't watched it yet.

Amazing and hilarious episode as always.

Well poot, I was about to write a theory and then it turns out Random Curiosity's reviewer has thought the same things as me, more or less. Copypasting.
SPOILER
On something from the last episode, I’ve started to notice that the orange numbers that flash across the screen everytime he shifts world lines is always something like 0.xxxxxx. In the lotto shift, it was 0.571015 and in Ruka’s shift, it was 0.456903. Moeka’s removal was 0.523299, which is a bit less than the lotto shift, and while the shift from the first episode wasn’t as clear, the last number that appears stable is 0.571024. They’re decimal values that can go over 1.0 when the numbers roll, but they always land on a number below it.

At first I thought this could be the 1% divergence Titor was talking about, and that the decimals could be some kind of measurement on the magnitude of the shifts, and what’s needed to prevent the dystopian future would require a shift over 1.0. But if you compare the magnitudes of the changes, they don’t really match up, so then I noticed the numbers were going down every subsequent world shift.

If we were to look at the difference as the measurement, it would make a bit more sense. The lotto shift seemed to change the least, so it’s the closest to the “original” world from episode 1, with a difference of only 0.000009. Ruka’s shift, the latest, would mean it’s the “farthest.” As to what is the “original” basis to measure off of, I don’t know, maybe it’s 1.0. Maybe the 1% divergence is actually measured in decimal, so it’s 0.010000 they have to aim for. Maybe the decimal numbers even double as a ID# for a particular world line. Maybe. Anyway, I know this can all probably be googled, but then there’s no fun in feeling like a mad scientist trying to figure things out~

And oh god "tuturuu~" is gaining ground. Mayuri used it like three times this episode, and one of them was a double strike with Mr. Brown's daughter! Argh.

I slightly choked on my tea when that happened. Still no clue why it bugs me so much.

And those numbers, lol I didn't even pay much attention to them, thought they're just a design feature.

Don't like thinking up/discussing thories anyway, just watching the show and going by the plot is more enjoyable for me. The only exception was Madoka for obvious reason of ridiculous amount of plot theories worth reading.

Episode 9:

Okabe's an asshole for faking sympathy for Christina, although maybe that was his own defense mechanism to hide the fact that he actually does care.

Character development for Mayuri? Impossible.

No tuturuu, huh? Guess they wanted to pay us back for last episode's overdose.

It's nice seeing Okabe ever so gradually realising what he's got himself into. Editing the ending sequence in the action was neat, I liked how the music swelled as he looked around bewildered. If you've read the lyrics they have themes of how time inexorably punishes etc, so that's pretty fitting too for the moment of realisation that big changes have been happening.

I still don't realise why I don't get Mood Whiplash from this series.

SPOILER
one thing that I still don't get it is why was nothing happened when daru send his D-mail ?
was there some requirements that he missed when he send it?
also because no one (not confirmed) notice the change doesn't that mean the past only change for okabe cause he is the only one who have reading stein (lol)?
whew so much to think, and the last episode end in a very2 great way as Sinistro said above, can't wait to see the next eps (Ruka have fallen too far by wearing a girl uniform, does he really succeeded in changing his past?)

About okabe's delusional or pretending phone call it's kinda like saying what in his mind to everyone around him in a weird (evasive?) way and it's kinda making him as a main protagonist and comic relief. I kinda like his character

@ previous post:

SPOILER
- According to this episode, Daru lost even though he knew what Feyris would play. Since he's a huge Feyris fanboy, maybe he was so infatuated with her that even knowing her plays did not prevent him from losing. Maybe he lost on purpose because he couldn't bear to see her sad. It's also possible, though unlikely, that Daru just sucks at the game immensely.

- Whether the past actually changes for everyone or just Okabe depends on whether every "world line" exists simultaneously. If they do, there are parallel universes and the past doesn't really "change"; Okabe just jumps to another possible universe (he disappears from the previous one?). If the world lines are POTENTIAL states of the universe and only one exists at a time, the past changes for everyone, but only Okabe remembers.

Slightly late to the party this week because ALCOHOL.

Nothing really to comment about in this episode for me, aside from Okabe x Christina relations looking so classic that it makes me smile. And that 2ch meme usage almost made me download a different from Crunchyroll release just to see how other people dealt with translating it.

This show is extremely slow and the protagonist acts in a completely illogical way from my point of view, but I still like it.
Void
Personally I think Okabe is one of the better protagonists to have, even though he might not exactly be original.

The ending to this week's episode had amazing execution. From what I'm reading, this is when it starts picking up (as if it wasn't interesting to begin with).

I've played the VN and so far the anime has been following the main route (along with some routes that lead to Mayuri's death)

I had 3 main things that I kept in mind from the VN:

SPOILER
1. Characters and plot line have been introduced well in the first episode. Except for the girl asking about that ancient machine which got my attention (seeing that this breaks the assumption that Okarin is crazy and his theory about an organization hunting him is imminent, which could either help or confuse non-VN players).
2. All of Okarin's assumptions are true. This does not include his "cellphone delusions"
3. Traps are awesome shrine maidens. =w=

Episode 10:

Ok, so Okabe definitely has some real screws loose. His desire to change the past hasn't been affected, for one. And when you're a dude performing a Crotch Grab Sex Check and are actively hoping you find a penis, you're very weird.

When he did one of his crazy laughs and the camera cut to the pigeons, I thought they would fly away scared, but no, they're apparently too tough to be affected :p

When Okabe fell sick as a child, he had the same sensation as he does when changing world lines...he thinks that's the cause of his power to remember previous timelines, but maybe someone changed the past at that time, perhaps to ensure he survives his illness?

Oh right, ominous warning from probably SERN. And then we have slice of life comedy for about 10 minutes. Followed by a close moment between Okabe and Christina (whose voice sounded REALLY different at that scene btw). Followed by that damn butterfly warning us that the latest time change may have had more impact than meets the eye. I love this show.

SPOILER
I have mixed feeling about ruka turns into a real girl, I mean I don't like trap to begin with thus I'm not sure how to react with trap turns into non-trap :o
The warning is really ominous, by showing jelly it really shows that they really keep a close watch at okabe. Do you think there's a possibilty of judas around the lab members?
When okabe started to think of using D-mail to prevent suzu from leaving, no one can stop him from using the D-mail anymore, not even the big change in akihabara. And damn that butterfly really2 bugs me. What kind of change happens other than suzu is not leaving and Barell Titor? a possibly new name?
the flag scene with christina is quite interesting, well I'm still leaning to okabexmayushii though~

so when is the next episode out?
TKiller
the only thing I know by this time is that this show having no previews makes me hrhgrhgrhrhrgh

Shouldn'tve started this as ongoing, I'm too impatient, but what's done is done.
maay
the warning message was sent by suzu who is actually a spy sent from SERN

Episode 11:

This time on the Tuturuu Watch, we make up for the shortages of the past two weeks with:
1) Mayuri running in slow motion off screen across the street + "tuturuu" = me expecting her to get run over by a car. Oh well.
2) And she's using it as a farewell now too? Cheater.
3) The most agonised rendition yet.

Was kind of surprised at how we're suddenly talking about sending memories/peoples' minds into the past (and condensing them to 36 bytes, no less!). I guess it explains away some time paradoxes.

Also, the microwave is supposed to act as a time machine after some unknown modifications Okabe made, but now we're also asked to believe that a common TV functions as the "lifter"? Not that I remember what it is, but isn't it meant to be highly specialised equipment? Maybe the crashed satellite is what makes it all possible, but that vanished last episode...I think.

Yet another mood whiplash galore near the end of the episode. Mood changed like what, three times?

SPOILER
I'm concerned about the identity of the SERN spy. Given that SERN will (in about 200 EPISODES at the speed the plot is going) cause trouble for the Future Gadget lab, one character is (will be? was once?) a SERN agent, and in all likelihood it's one of the seven we know, since no other major characters have been introduced and having a new one pop up as the spy would be extremely jarring. But who is it? Part-Timer seems certain about Christina, but she doesn't seem very suspicious. Maybe she's only evil in the timeline Part-Timer came from, or will become evil later down the "line"? Maybe it was Part-Timer who murdered Christina on the first episode? Questions are starting to pile up.

Epsiode 11

it have a new variation of tuturu, well not really new just mayurii saying it in while being exhausted

Sinistro wrote:

I totally expect this too, even though it's very cliche

now I know why nothing changed by daru's D-mail, the TV is not on below. but wait a minute, the D-mail did come from 5 days ago so doesn't that mean it succeeded? aghhh

SPOILER
I have a suspicion on part-time warrior & shining finger. From the first eps when okabe saw the satellite the first time, that figure is clearly suzu (I dare to bet my money on this). There also a slight shake on the building, kinda like when okabe & co do the experiment. As why did I doubt shining finger cause she always use cellphone and the threat massages are using cellphone too :P
1 thing that I'm sure now whenever okabe change the past with D-mail the former change is still remain. Like how ruka have change to "woman" before sending feyris' D-mail and still one after okabe sent it. What I want to say doesn't that mean that christina will still die regardless of okabe's action ?

Let's wait for the next episode~

I offer you a challenge. Set this as your Mail/Call ringtone and don't change it as long as possible.

Works miracles as an alarm tune too, you'll wake up full of energy with a strong urge to destroy whatever is making this sound.

Episode 12
This episode is the reason why I don't like watching anime with heavy story episode per episode
WATCH EPISODE 12 FIRST THEN READ THIS
So the first one to die is Mayushii, and here I am thinking that Christina is the only one who'll die
The date is really emphasize in the beginning, I wonder what it's implied?

The only thing this episode made clear is that shit just got serious.

I'm starting to get tempted to ask someone who've read the novel what'll be next.

Nah, we have a couple of stuff we can consider:

SPOILER
- Part-Time Warrior comes from a world line in whose future Christina will cooperated with SERN (don't you just love time travel tenses?)
- Part-Time Warrior also knew about SERN's attack, which is why she bailed out. I bet she didn't know when it would happen, but she knew the events related to it (like Daru's computer linking to SERN).
- Shining Finger is helping SERN out of some personal, possibly non-evil motive ("FB". Is it a person?) Thus, she may be persuaded to join the good guys at some point along the (world) line.
- The hourglass and clocks stopping might indicate SERN's use of time manipulation technology at that moment (travelling from 2030-whatever to the present? Slowing time down so they can move into the apartment faster than anyone can notice them?)
- Is the bomb threat that stopped the trains related to all this? Maybe when Okabe goes back in time, this is what will stop them from escaping the area. Does that mean SERN planned that too?
- How can Okabe escape SERN and get to use the Time Leap Machine to save Mayuri? Why would he want to save Mayuri?

But, yeah. So abrupt.
