I don't live near any arcades that have Taiko, but as far as I'm aware, a lot of the more serious players use their own sticks. I wouldn't really recommend normal-style drumsticks, as they're skinnier and will feel considerably different to play with compared to actual Taiko sticks. I'd probably suggest looking into finding somewhere to buy bachi made of lighter wood (such as cypress), or even making your own sticks with a wooden dowel and some sandpaper from your local hardware store.
