THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ONE RIGHT HERE!

Yes...

This thread is a good example of how bad this thread is.

You're silly.
Jarby
It's not bad until Lord Ephemeral tells us it is.
NotShinta
Therefore, it is good. Well done, Sapphire honey.

No, just tolerable at best.

Meta-bad thread
Shellghost
Undetermined.
Wojjan
Retroactive failure.

I can't help but applaud really.
Kitsunemimi
Bad, yet not quite retarded as some of the nub posts and necrobumps we've been getting lately.
Shohei Ohtani
This thread is officially better than a CDFA thread
Cyclohexane
Whether it's good or not, at least we know it's a thread.
Sleep Powder
A bad thread is a split thread.

Its hard to put it back together.
Shohei Ohtani
This thread sat on a wall
This thread had a great big fall
???
All the GMTs and all the BATs
couldn't put the thread back together again

so assorted stuff happens and the thread sucks.

Bad threads generally have long strings of single-word/short sentence reply with many pages yet little to none, and somehow usually no, substance.
They can be attempted to counteracted with legitimate discussion, but will generally be flooded by a bunch of posts by internet babies who think posting "ok" will somehow add flavor to the thread and make something funny.
Having a serious or even an actually humorous discussion with original content is very difficult due to the "bad thread" bacteria that exists within this community.
"Discussion" is what they feed upon until it is completely destroyed as the meaningful posts get buried in the OMG KAWAII DESU NE~ of the majority. Sadly good posts are seldom read because of this. They will be flooded into the bottom of a random page where people will not view it because all the other posts on the page are crap and crap pages fill it until it reaches the next page of crap which will be the only thing people bother reading.

Another sign of a bad thread is a thread where the posters clearly do not understand the point of certain posts. For example, great scholars such as 31Gabe and kokoroanime are shunned upon because the bad thread bacteria cannot comprehend the genius of their posts. Sometimes forum users will deviate from the original or intentional discussion until the thread is a unavigatable blob of horrible. Hundreds of pages worth of posts may be present, but perhaps a single hundred posts are worth viewing. Or even less perhaps. Such a shame.

And in the end, bad threads infinitely perpetuate themselves as any counteraction to them such as the elusive and rare "Good Thread" are generally locked by humorless moderators who are afraid of the concept of a good thread existing on such a bad board. They will leave the bad threads and sometimes even encourage them chanting things like "this thread is Valhalla" whilst it is clearly not and is truly a pile of unfunny. The point is: bad threads are the mod's hugbox and good threads are torn down.

That's the only goodish thread left, but there are still a bunch of bad posts in it.
Krisom
Bad threads are, for me, caused by bad posts. There's nothing like a thread that's destined to fall by itself, a seemingly horrible OP in a thread can end in a more than amazing thread if the people who post do not act like retards or bitch over the bad OP, leaving nothing to the discussion.

This thread is a great example. All posts until Pokebis's one were horrible (maybe animask's is decent too), it was "destined" to fail, but then someone took more than half of a second to think on something smart to post. Everything else was "ok" tier, and if you've been in this place for a while, you probably know what "ok" means here (hint: it means nothing).
Another good example is Mara Presents, look at the first pages, full of content and everyone enjoying it. Now check the last pages, they are full of "NO MORE POSTS UNTIL NEO", when what they actually should do is try to create more stuff other than complaining about the other posts.

Hopefully, people will think a bit on what's going on. It's not hundreds of shitty threads, it's hundreds of shitty posts.

tl;dr: To avoid bad threads, just do a decent post. If you can't, then don't post anything and carry on. Thanks.
Cyclohexane
As it was previously stated, most of the "bad threads" in here are bad from the beginning and do nothing but piss moderators off. Once in a while, a very good post can appear with funny/good content that actually redeems the lack of quality of the thread. Some threads also are plain awesome from the get-go (Afternoon Delight) and get stickied/valhalla'd.

But again, this is Off-Topic and this is the dump of the forum, so of course there are terrible threads and stupid messages. If there weren't, wouldn't it be dull as hell?

A perfect example of shitposting is the "post something neither funny nor interesting". It's lived up to its name really. 18 pages filled with garbage.

Now I'm not complaining or anything because I could just get out of here but I don't do it as I feel like, as much as it is hated, a sub-forum for a game this big is necessary to avoid getting shit everywhere (mainly General Discussion)

I'm just hoping TBTE or any member close to his ideology of being an idiot doesn't go ahead and make a thread in here. We could do without those really.
Backfire
This is as bad as Bad Apple Stupid-Fatty Aha? TBTE.

Well Krisom, I'm quite GLaD you have brought that point into the discussion. The thing about making a "bad" or "good" thread is usually about the entertainment value. People usually have no reason to read something that they don't find entertaining, though there may be exceptions in the cases of when they are being tied to a chair and forced to read Off-Topic in order to not be severed in two by a gigantic scythe.

If something is entertaining, that is usually when people will read it. If something is boring, then people will not read it. And that's as simple as it is. Sometimes being random is funny, such as in the LunaticMara thread that was previously mentioned. Sometime it is not, as in the example in the above post.

When all is said and done, making a "good" thread is truly difficult to achieve. Especially when you are in Off-Topic.

(By the way, I hope that made sense. It probably didn't.)

My English is bad, hope you guys can understand my words...

Well, in my opinion, there's no such thing as "bad thread" or "good thread".
But if someone really wants to sort them out, I will suggest using the following adjective :
"informative"/"useless" for the title/first post, "on-topic"/"off-topic" for the discussion/post after the first one.
(Notice the word "off-topic" has no definite meaning of describing a thread on off-topic section, it just means if the words on later posts are following the topic or the whole idea of the thread or not)

and there will be a total of 4 types of combination to the characterization of a thread:

1. Informative on-topic thread: Most of the thread on osu! forum.

2. Informative off-topic thread: Most of the thread talking about personal experience, most birthday threads, forum games.

3. Useless on-topic thread: An Example -- the legendary "okay" thread (If I recall correctly, the title and the first post contained only one word "okay", so as long as people reply the word "okay" they're staying on topic)

4. Useless off-topic thread: Most threads on off-topic, most threads on wasteland
(I mean the thread created for a intention of telling an obvious fact that leaves no room for discussion, so people don't know how to reply meaningfully)

5. peppy's announcements
(???)

What do you guys think?

Perhaps you have a point with the whole "no good or bad thread" idea. After all, much like books a thread is only what people make of it. Some people think that Rebecca Black is a great singer, while others think she is not.

Missed the point. That is how silly everyone in this thread sounds.
You want good posts? Make good posts.
You want good threads? Make good threads.
You want to complain that other people are ruining this board and that everything is going to shit and it's all your fault everything's bad and etc and that shit threads should be actively participated in and that people should act in a way that you personally find entertaining? You gotta be at least as cool as Lukewarm.

Thank you for your opinion, adam2046. I agree that my previous post was not a good example of a "good" post.
But now it seems that you are complaining about me complaining about how people are making bad posts.
Before the chain starts, I realize that I am also complaining about someone else complaining that I was complaining about how people are making bad posts.

Thank you for your time. Let's now re-rail the thread and discuss how bad it is.

THIS THREAD SUCKS.

By "full of" you clearly mean the two or three times that I myself have posted that. ._.
It's to try and urge people to minimize the amount of posts that lack content thank you very much.

Any threads that discourage posts from all kinds of people are usually bad threads imo. I like threads that can have input from at least 70% of the community or more. Here's an example of a bad thread.

Here's an example of what I believe is a good thread.

Your example of a "good thread" is good, but it's in General Discussion. General Discussion tends to be a touch more sane than Off-Topic, which makes it better or worse depending on your point of view.
ddrXero64
True, then I'd say the raging off topic is definitely a quality thread, a lot of people can relate I'm sure.
