Hello osu!

I've always wondered, how can I see if a mp3 is a VBR one ?
I must use a special software ?
Because if it's a VBR, Windows is always saying shit (usually 320kbps) and I dunno if I should reencode it or not.

Thanks in advance for your help ! :)

Most music playing software can check if it is VBR or not. Just put the .mp3 file into a program that displays the bitrate and see if the bitrate changes as the song goes on. For example, foobar2000 displays it on the bottom left and VLC has it in a popout menu (tools -> Codec Information, click the statistics tab)

If you jsut want to check if the bitrate fits into the ranking bounds, use this equation:
(The size of the mp3 in bytes) * 8 / (the length of the song in seconds) / (1000) = bitrate in kbps

It is a slight overestimate, but only by 1-2 kbps usually
