I'm sure I'm not the first to post about this nor is it the first time I've posted about it.
As it should be well known in the gaming community, macOS is one of the most efficient and beautiful operating systems the world has to offer-however it is very incompatible with popular software, typical office applications, and gaming engines.
It was truly a miracle for me to find out that osu had a wine version of the game.
However, there are many downsides to using the least glitchy wine version of osu.
Issues:
-Beatmaps cannot be downloaded when in fullscreen. You must completely exit the game, or decrease your screen resolution. This is very inconvenient, especially in a multiplayer match.
-Complete fullscreen native support, (any resolution above 1280 x 800), will crash the game and cause an error. This issue is not easily fixed either-it requires the user to either change the setting manually through the text document, or go through a cycle of restarting and starting the game.
-Due to the issue above, using a tablet for standard causes the cursor to vibrate rapidly in game. This causes inaccuracy in gameplay.
-Cutting Edge or Beta versions of the game are not compatible. I do understand that there was an update as an Alpha release to allow these versions to run. However that build is much more glitchy than the version I'm describing right now.
-The dock, or for that matter any feature outside of osu, cannot be accessed in game. This also requires you to completely exit the game, or decrease your screen resolution.
-[For steam users] Steam overlay is not accessible at all in-game.
-Certain key-binds do not function properly, or at all. For example, the key-bind for accessing settings in a multiplayer lobby does not function. (This connects to the issue I firstly mentioned.)
I understand that peppy has other things to work on, especially osu!next. However, it has been an entire year since a mostly functional version of osu has been release for mac. I also understand that macOS users does not include any large portion of players whatsoever. However, inconveniencing these users isn't fair, especially if we've been ignored for a year.
I think there should be osu! native support by the end of 2016.
To address those about to use the 4-20-16 update against me:
There are even MORE issues with this version.
-It requires you to download XQuartz.
-It crashes by using the random beatmap selection (F2) option in the game.
-It contains the same problems I described above, except for the cutting edge/beta issue, as those are included. They're glitchy af, but they're included nonetheless.
-The offset NEVER seems to be correct on this version.
Let's put some effort into mac support? Please?
