Alright, so I was playing osu! today, and I was doing just fine. I kept on and on attempting to play 3L~ Extend Ash- Hourai Victim[Extra Stage]. And, as usual, I was getting no further than I was before. I've attempted the song almost 700 times now. Anyway, so, I was being spectated by _index. So, he asked me to watch him play, so I spec'd him on the same song. Now, as far as I've checked on his profile page, he's only been playing for a little more than two months, going on three months. I've been playing for nearly a year now, playing as hard as I could if I could. And, I don't know, when he started flying by Hourai Victim like it was nothing... I don't know, I uess it just sorta crushed my confidence...

Any advice other than slap myself in the face and tell myself to get over it?

EDIT:

Additional Details:

Now, I'm doing terrible all around, I'm failing beatmaps I could've beaten easily before... And, I just don't know what to say anymore.

I know that feel. ;_;

Anyway, I think you should just slap yourself in the face and tell yourself to get over it practice on other beatmaps.

I find that continuously repeating the same beatmap over and over isn't exactly good for your physical AND mental health. Well, playing other songs or taking a break from osu! works for me at least.

EDIT: Regarding additional details, it seems like a rest would definitely help. Maybe just playing some moderately difficult beatmaps would also give a gradual recovery.

It doesn't matter how long you've been around for, it matters how much you've been practicing. If you pay attention to his profile, he has well over two times as many plays as you, and waaay way more ranked score. Which means he's been grinding osu! (or not really) for the past months. As a matter of fact, if you've been around for a year, you've been playing like... as little as me o3o. But basically, this just means you need to practice more. For someone who's been around for a year, they'd normally have a lot more plays than you.

Take a short break, then resume practice when you feel more like it. We'll be damned if a game causes us grief instead of fun.

Alright, thanks for the advice everyone. I guess it's time to lower myself back down to intermediate beatmaps.

Meh, anyway, that also means that it's time to practice even more.

Yo man there is only one thing that's going to help you out on this, and that is assume that everyone better than you is a cheater. That's how i got over Cookiezi

You shouldn't care about other People/Players.

No matter if they're thousand times better than you or thousand times worse. I for myself, don't think "Damn I'm pro" while watching people playe worse than I neither than "I'm so bad q_q" while watching better ones. U just going to crush yourself in that though.

The only advice I could give you is to take a short break of the game, maybe some days or a week. Do something else in meanwhile. Play MMORPG's or something what's not that fast. U'll see that u'r going to get better in time :). Osu! is for fun, not for competition in my eyes. But everyone has to decide this at his own.

Greets :)!

Yeah, I stopped caring the day afterwards. Btw, I can't play that many MMORPG's because I own a Netbook. The most I can do is play a Touhou game. Which I did. Beat Touhou 7 on Lunatic again.

Anyway, I am doing a little better now. I beat two of my best records, and FC'd two more songs. So, I feel a little proud of myself. Either way. I am going to save up to buy a Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet. I have a feeling it'll be easier because it'll feel more like a DS screen for me. And I kicked ASS at EBA and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! So, that could help a little.

I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing.

I find grinding a beatmap makes me more frustrated and perform worse than if I just opened it and played it calmly
Why does it matter how good someone else is? As long as you're having fun then you're playing the game correctly

Yes, well, as I already said. I've already gotten over it. XD

I suggest relaxing while playing.
It usually works better than being all tense and stuff, and is less work.

This. But it's not always that easy imo. But the key to success is "coolness". If you freak out once u fail all day long ~
