So, I've come to realize that alternating tapping is some kind of advanced technique or something. I have been alternating my taps ever since I started playing osu. Is that a good thing or does it even matter? My taps are usually 50% 50% on each finger, so it's pretty consistent.

My second question is about my rank/pp. I have 771pp and I'm rank 161k. I've been playing since about march and I just beat my first 5 star maps today ( https://osu.ppy.sh/b/633373&m=0 and this shit https://osu.ppy.sh/s/36319 ) I can play 4 star maps really comfortably, and if i try I can fc 4 star maps. Am I making good progress or should I be able to play better songs?

Also, I play with a mouse :p

Thanks for any feedback, love you osu! community <3

You're doing just fine. There really isn't a "normal" progression.
As for tapping, if you are comfortable alternating, then stick with it. But some people have told me when you get to higher bpm your fingers may not be able to keep up. But then again single tapping has its pros and cons also.

What exactly is a "high" bpm? 200+?

high bpm varies from person to person
and alternate tapping is not an advanced technique. It's a playstyle
Also, you are doing just fine, nothing too fancy but nothing too bad either

Depends, high BPM is above 220 BPM, 175 ~ 219 is in the middle and anything below is low BPM. But for me I can't stream consistently for anything that is above 190 BPM, so yea it depends.

Also, don't worry about progression, just have fun. I recommend FCing 4* maps cause that's where maps have varying patterns for you to get used to if you want to have an easier time getting into harder maps
