The current editor is not very user friendly, and makes modding/mapping tedious.

Taiko Editor GUI
- Like osu!mania, the editor for taiko specific difficulties automatically changes when this mode is set.
- For difficulty settings, you should only have 2 options: HP drain, and overall difficulty.
- Maybe add a cap with a max of 7 due to ranking criteria rules?
- CS/AR should not show, since they don't affect difficulty. They will be defaulted to 5.
- Slider Velocity is set in the timing tab like always, but perhaps there could be slight modifications if it's possible:
- Change "Slider Velocity" string to "Scroll Speed"
- The description when hovering over it with the mouse should change to fit this. For example, "The scrolling speed of the notes. 1.4 or 1.6 is recommended."
- When changing SV via timing tab or timing setup, adjust drumrolls (sliders) to retain the length (time) automatically.
- In the compose tab, a taiko bar will show (much like the one that shows when playing) with grid-lines like the osu!mania editor.
- The user will have 4 toggles on the left like it is now: Select, Circle, Drumroll (Slider), and Shaker (spinner).
- On the right, there will be 2 toggles: Don/Katsu toggle and "Big" toggle (for big don/kat/drumroll)
- On the grid, you can scroll left and right with distance determined by the Beat Snap Divisor (like osu!mania)
- On the timeline at the top, it will display like normal, but without the notes (like osu!mania)
- Place notes like normal, using the mouse and appropriate toggles
- Maybe add a feature to hotkey don or kat placement (ex, press x to place and don and z to place a kat)
- Adjust free mapping feature to support big don/kat
- Distance snap will not be visible, since it is not used in taiko.
- The zoom function will zoom in/out on the notes on the grid and timeline (like osu!mania) with the default zoom being the same as it would appear while playing
- In the editor, the sounds for notes will automatically use the taiko hitsounds for your skin.
Benefits
- Much more user friendly
- Quick and Easy mapping experience
- Less prone to mistakes
- Makes taiko much easier to read in the editor (useful for modding)
- People don't have to learn before starting to map that adding special hitsounds affects what the note is (goes with user friendly).
tetsutaro's original suggestion

I am thinking that an addition of another mapping interface that is exclusively for Taiko mode would be much more convenient for mappers.
Changing Interfaces
Alternative 1. When a mapper chooses to make a map exclusive for Taiko mode, the interface automatically change.
Alternative 2. Manual checkbox or drop-down menu option (e.g. "Taiko Interface")
Alternative 3. Allow choosing once entering editing mode of a map (like a "mapping wizard" sort of thing)
Buttons
Instead of two sides of buttons, only keep those on the left side.
And instead of select, circle, slider, spinner buttons, now there should be 4 new buttons: select, don, kat, drum roll
Center Plotting Interface
A large, intuitive horizontal scrolling bar, that look a lot like the real bar in gameplay.
The original timing bar at the top can be removed.
How to Map
Basically, choose the kind of note you want and click the respective location in the time line.
For drum rolls, click at the starting point, and then scroll to and click at the ending point. (Like sliders now)
For large notes:
Alternative 1. Put the same note in one place twice to make it large. (Only for single don/kat notes)
Alternative 2. Changing plotting modes with a drop-down. All notes plotted will be large unless it is changed again.
Alternative 3. Right-click an already placed note to change it to a large note.
For special notes:
Alternative 1. Multiple insertion of drum rolls (very difficult to implement)
Alternative 2. Changing plotting modes with a drop-down. All drum rolls plotted will be of that kind unless it is changed again.
Alternative 3. Right-click an already placed drum roll to change its kind.
Others
Support in Taiko SB modding similar to this interface. (The whole Taiko scrolling bar is provided for better location and movements)
