I agree, although I would like to go into more detail. Personally, as a new player I've found the Osu!Direct system to be completely redundant as a map-finding tool due to the fact it is simply missing an option to display map difficulties.
Osu!Direct currently only offers a couple of ways to sort: By Top Rated/Most Played and basic filters such as Ranked or Game Mode. This is fine, but not very useful as this offers nearly no relevant information.
Which brings me to my second point: When looking at a beatmap's listings, the only indication of difficulties is if you hover over the little game-mode icon to the right of the song listing: The authors names of the difficulty.
These names are utterly useless ranging from "RandoDude's Easy" or "PRESS START!" or in this case
http://imgur.com/a/xxC8H: a not-very-helpful emoticon. Not helping is that some authors definitions of "Normal" vary wildly from anywhere from 1 star to 5 stars. While "Insane" is apparently defined as anything from 4 stars to 9 or higher.
Osu!Direct in my opinion needs 2 extremely useful implementations:
1) A system to sort by Primary and Secondary filters: Similarly to how our songs are sorted when we are selecting one to play from our song library in the Osu songs menu. Osu!Direct needs to allow supporters to select a Primary sort and a Secondary sort.
e.g Primary Sorting by "Difficulty" and subsorted by "Top-Rated", Songs appear in categories such as 1 star/ 2 star / 3 star etc, and under each category they appear in descending order by Rating. Of course, some maps may appear in more than 1 category due to their multiple difficulties.
2) When hovering over map listings, the only current indications of a map's difficulty is the author's given difficulty name. Replace this useless display of a single name to a full interface showing map statistics of the map's specifications such as star difficulty rating, and other factors such as OD/AR/CS/BPM/submission date and anything else useful.
With these changes, the Osu!Direct becomes a comprehensive beat map search tool and removes the need for supporters to out-link to the main webpage just to look at some quick stats such as difficulty or AR. Having to travel out to the main webpage frankly makes Osu!Direct quite redundant when searching for new maps.
Osu!Direct remains only a minor convenience when downloading songs in multiplayer lobbies, but in reality all it does is save 2-3 clicks over the browser link - This search tool has much greater potential and my first impression of the tool was that it seemed to be incomplete.
