Interestingly enough, Ace followed you on that counter-wagon on me. If you two were the Lovers you might've panicked to the point where that counter-wagon was the only thing that had promise of keeping you both alive today. Getting the votes away from you outweight (in priority) the consequences of having an obvious scum counter-wagon. The fact that Jess, the most unpredictable player of this game, is the one that has the hammer vote only made you even more nervous you will be losing this game so early.
In conclusion, getting you to L-1 worked already. Your partner showed up to save you from oppression.
