During my gigantic break from osu!, I came across this song (very rare album by the way), and completely fell in love with it. Even though I wasn't as attached to it when I came back to osu!, it was one of my goals to map this the moment I was able to click 'Edit' in the main menu again.

So there we go. I whipped this up (complete set) in around one week, which is now by far my personal best.

This is a song sung by Takahashi Meijin himself, in collaboration with IOSYS, so what's not to like. It uses melodies from the NES game Star Soldier, so you may recognize them, and even if you don't, it's still worth listening (and you'll probably play Star Soldier after hearing this).
The whole album is so lovable, this song isn't probably going to be the only one being mapped. I hope you enjoy the map (and the song) as much as I enjoyed listening and mapping it.

Special thanks to pokedigi for creating a Taiko-specific difficulty for the set!

Thank you for giving me such a nice chance for the taiko guest. Here's the difficult with my deeply appreciate.
This taiko guest cite some part of Star Soldier Medley, a beatmap embodied in Taiko Series.
Whether to accept this taiko guest is okay, but please tell me your decide.

PS: The offset seems to be a little earlier...?

Well,I checked your offset here and I'm pretty sure that it's a bit early. Offset 465 sounds better,what do you think?
your mp3 quality is 266 kbps,but it has to be between 128 - 192 kbps. So,I think you have to decrease it with the help of a special programm (Format Factory for example). But don't forget that after decreasing or increasing mp3 quality your offset may be changed. So,this would be nice if you will recheck your offset then.

Hm, I thought the hard limit was somewhere around 260kbps. Ah, I guess I will end up doing that. After the reencoding I have changed the offset to 535, hope that's alright.

Well, it would be nice for consistency, but I don't think it really must be like that for ranking. Also, I'd rather have pokedigi fix it instead of myself~

I guess you're right, but that'd make things a bit hard for easy. Since it's practically wrong to leave it like this, I have cut the slider 1/4 instead.

I also thought the slider velocity might be a little fast, but then again, this difficulty isn't easy anymore! Besides, it'd be a bother to redo all sliders to change it.

I guess I already explained the new combo, and the sliders' ticks sound wrong when changing it. It still follows the background beat so I think it's fine.

Uh... Are you sure you wrote the correct offset? I'd normally accept changes of a few ms but that is too much of a change! It sounds off to me.

The difficulty settings you suggested do sound interesting... I'll go for a more balanced setup for now but if people support the idea then I will change it.

About the combo markers, well... I already had them well planned and all, going with the music stanzas and such. I might not respect this at all times because I don't like combos changing on a same stack. Since your combo mod would mess around my setup, I'll just have to deny everything. Sorry.

It seems that some notes in taiko are off at the last BPM changing since I have much 1/3 note sets.

Some fixed.

I think you have to do another full submit to get the beatmap preview image on the listing page to update to the background. If it doesn't, try full submitting just one map with just one background, then submit the rest. Or maybe osu.ppy.sh just doesn't like the way you named the backgrounds, idk.


offset +5/10? Easy and hard both gave me +10, but I got 99% accuracy on both, and it didn't hit 10 ms late until the last 1/4th of the song.

backgrounds must be under 1024x768, and preferably 4:3, though a little bit of letterboxing is okay, so that background is fine (in my opinion) but does have wasted space since it's >4:3.

As an aside, storyboard elements must not have more than one dimension greater than 800x600 (so 1024x600 or 800x800 are okay), so you couldn't use either background in a storyboard.

It does seem to be a problem with the way I named my backgrounds, since it's occurring on all my pending beatmaps. I had to fix two of them for ranking so yeah, did it on this one too.

Yeah I see what you mean there, and I assume you're talking about the Taiko background. It's no big deal, although I still wonder why pokedigi did the background with dimensions like that. :P

Thanks for modding Taiko difficulty. But I think a Taiko shouldn't be filling with much scrolling changes. If anyone else has the same idea, I will re-check this part.

- Set please custom colors. Every skin has there default colors, for example taiko's colors are orange and azure, they don't fit at all. So please set colors, you can use even default standart colors as custom.

Hey, it's not that much of a huge jump, I don't think a new player would be confused with that. I guess there's no harm in slanting them a bit though.
I'm guessing you mean the spacing between those both blue sliders. If you mean the spacing between both combos... well damn, I don't think it's even a jump.

The spacing changes are for the patterns man~ and I guess I will recheck it later since there's still other overlaps to take care of.

It looks better in some way... but it looks a bit cluttered to me. I guess I will have to whip out something more interesting anyway. Also, judging from the screenshot, the slider must be 1/2 longer.

Well take a look at screenshots that i have linked. Do those colors fit the song? It's not hard to set default (green,red etc) as custom colors~

Well, it's certainly not hard and it would be fitting to enable the default colors this time... but I think it's more of an issue with custom skins, you can't make every skin fit every beatmap; I'd have to enable custom colors for every beatmap, and since I like default custom colors I'd enable default colors on every beatmap. I don't know how people would react to that... although, setting fitting custom colors for every beatmap doesn't look like a bad idea either. It's just not my habit though.

I'll just enable them this time.

Hm, such a small mod...

I'll wait on pokedigi to comment on the difficulty settings, and the alignment on Insane isn't that necessary. It's just a minor thing anyway. Thanks for the check though~!

I think the kiai at the beginning isn't necessary, that's like starting the map in the strongest part of the map and the song, feels kind of anti-climatic, or some kind of feeling that the best part of the map is at the beginning, i'd recommend you remove the kiai at the beginning.

Eh, I had noted this before, but at the end I say all the choruses feel the same way, so I'd either do Kiai on all or not do it at all.

Since short balloon note in Taiko no Tatsujin has been acceptable (Like Mint Tears), whether using ninja spinner in taiko diffs at Osu are still in debate. Since I still can't find a better solution, I need some time to decide it, or I expect anyone could give it a further mod from 2:25:995 to 2:27:450. After some discuss with some BAT and taiko mapper, Ninja-spinner is not actually firbidded in Taiko. Though there's no better choices, I decided to reserve it.
Since I'm taking final exams, I can't get to Osu normally. I'll fix all at the end of June.
