Relative image sizes question

I am trying to create a storyboard where the background image has a "screen" in it, and I would like to display different things on that screen. A picture says a thousand words, so here's one:

The problem is this: when I create an image that fits the exact number of pixels the screen is, after importing into osu!, the picture doesn't match up at all.

when it should be this:(after using the scale function in osu!)

What is causing the discrepancy, the background image being resized by osu? What is the proper image size that the screen picture needs to be? In addition, how would different osu! window sizes affect this? I would prefer not using the scale function in osu, because that means I have to scale every single image and that is pretty much impossible for the things I'm trying to display.

images that show my working steps
Background image size: 873x479
Osu resolution: 1024x768

Thanks for any help :)

The storyboard field is in 640x480, even if your background/resolution is bigger.

You have to take that in mind if you don'w want to scale.

In design mode, you can hover your cursor around and the SB coordinates are labeled in the upper right part of the screen

Huh, the storyboard field image is exactly translated to the actual playing field image size. It's still wrong during actual play.

If the background is resized, how come the other images aren't resized along with the background image? What resolution should the background image be then to not get resized?

Also, will different osu resolutions cause the matching to go haywire as well?

That being said , having bigger quality on the BG is always nice, but if you don't wanna scale you have to think on the 640x480 SB field.
And as I said before, this has nothing to do with osu! resolutions.

Worked perfectly! Thank you very much Xgor :)

Thanks for the tip too LuigiHann.

For what you're doing, you could probably work with a 640x480 version of your background while designing your storyboard, and then replace it with a 1024x768 version once you're done. As long as the aspect ratio is the same it should be fine. Although if your original image is 873x479 then cropping it to 640x isn't really a huge loss

Yep, I've decided to crop it down. Now that I checked the video where I got the picture off, it's actually 720x480. I wonder where I managed to get the extra 150 vertical pixels from :o , must have accidentally stretched the vlc window or something haha.
