[invalid] Static .gif avatar support in-game [Denied]

On the song select screen, it shows the avatar. But it's static, which is perfectly fine with me.


But on the online player panel (F9), it doesn't.


So requesting that static .gif files be shown in the player panels!

Looking at a blank space is :( whereas everyone else is surrounding my panel with avatars. I feel left out.

A long time ago there was a topic posted in general development of what we wanted to be implemented into osu! the most, i remember this being on of the options.

Actually, it's a bit different.

Only jpg and png formats are supported.
Would support of gif be removed altogether?

I don't particularly like the gif format since it looks ugly due to alpha and index, but it's really annoying to see someone with no avatar in game.

also, here you go Mafia:

this will work exactly how you want if you use firefox or opera (and omg 4 kB smaller). If not it will display the animation for those clients and just a single frame for everyone else.

I believe it's an animated png, or apng; There are several programs you can use to make them fairly easily, I'm not sure which is the best.

Now MY avatar was significantly more work (as you can see by the alpha channel and different image in non-apng browsers). And the fact that it's almost exactly 88 kB but still 18 frames.

as I said earlier. firefox and opera will view the animation, other browsers will not.

apng isn't an approved format, it was denied by the png board, and firefox decided to support the format in spite of that decision, a lot like netscape did for gif animations. It's very difficult to find programs which support apng, but there's a few out there.

Because animated avatars aren't something I want to see in osu!? Also, they are usually several hundreds of kilobytes.

I thought this request was for gifs to be displayed as still images.
Although, I guess that would still be pretty difficult, even if some kind of image converter is implimented.

Peppy, we could always use uppy's server. I don't see what the problem is as people upload hundreds of thing to uppy each day. Aha! You could let people use animated GIFs if they are a supporter :D
