Yeah they're punk pre-American Idiot, and they contributed to the revival of punk rock, pop punk in the late 90's so credit to them. :pFuZ wrote:

Green Day came from rock, then helped make the punk genre, spawning bands like The Offspring, Blink, etc. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown were a different kind of take on punk imo.

Legitimate Green Day punk can be foubd from their albums 39/Smooth to Insomniac. Good shit right there.

Kerplunk was when I think they hit their spot. They had songs like Welcome to Paradise, 2000 Light Years Away, Android. That's a good punk album there.

OT: Listened to Husker Du, Social Distortion, Bad Religion and Minor Threat a while ago. Definitely completed my day. One of my favorites. :p
MCR aren't really considered punk anymore they're more of alternative rock, emo power pop when you think about most of their albums.
They don't sound as raw as most punk bands, not even Green Day.

Black Parade looks like one tho, but I'll agree that most of their songs are like emo, rock and pop . I only follow a few songs of them so I don't know how other of their songs sounds like.
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge sounds more like punk than The Black Parade.. Actually, the Black Parade is VERY far off from punk..
I might have mistook emo as punk, but after it goes fast paced, doesn't it go with the similar genre?
Emo can be punk, bands just get called emo cause of their lyrical content and how they look like.. It's just that I can't recall The Black Parade ever sounding punk.. I can compare it with American Idiot, which also doesn't even remotely come close to punk, as both are highly popular albums among teenagers and both are released at the same era too.
Punk is mostly fast paced and aggressive. Most of the lyrical content also usually talk about politics. They're also known to stay away from the mainstream but we all know punk has taken it over back in the early 2000s :p The hype as died down though..
More like rebels. For MCR its like they fall under pop whos songs are sounds like punk in my opinion.
