[New Rule] Image tags on audio files must be removed

On some ranked beatmaps, image tags (cover images) are still attached on mp3 files. These can be viewed as file thumbnails, like this.
These images are unusable and contribute to the filesize of a beatmap. AIMod and other modding applications currently can't detect these issus.
That's why I suggest this rule, with the explanation similar to "removing audio track on video files":
The audio's image tag must be removed from the file itself.
---or---
The mp3's image tag must be removed from the file itself.
The purpose of this rule is to reduce beatmap filesize, depending on the size of the image tag attached.
There are some programs and online conversion sites that mappers/modders can use to remove these images.

how much space would be saved?

That depends on the size of the image embedded in the audio file, but generally I can say that you save around 100KB and less.

If you ever use more than 50 audio files with image tags á 100KB then this probably makes sense.

On a serious view: I have no idea how to remove them without decreasing the quality by using poopy audio editing programs. Especially if you're not used to work with them. And before it's getting worse we accept the fate to have some more kbits in our beatmaps.

So I wonder the exact file size that could be saved by this.
If it's just 100kb then....

I think form the game design pov this can be good, maybe with even generalization of mp3 file name to something like audio.mp3 (edit: this is already implemented btw).

edit: actually cleaning mp3 tags can be done on osu client or server side also.

In my case the mp3 size went from 9.2MB to 8.8MB, so 400kb out of the park.
Nowadays album art images can be a bit bigger so you can expect half a megabyte shaved in some cases.

I wouldn't list it as a rule, as most people will miss it (if you set the viewing in the folder to detail, you won't see the image tag) but moreso as a guideline to try to get the most amount of people to fix it, but not force them to do it (since I am with Stefan, and I have no clue on how to do it, even with Loli's image)

Oh that should be a nice idea if osu!client could automatically remove the image. Just like that automatically rename the audio file to audio.mp3.

With the change of how the Ranking Criteria Subforum works from now on, topics like these are obsolete. I will send a PM to the author of the topic that encourages him to bring it up to one of the council members.
