I kinda feel bad that I used to FC 3 star beatmaps really easily when I was probably at rank 20k, but right now at 6.5k I can hardly FC 4 star beatmaps.

Idk what will happen if I get to Taiko tournament next year(?) lawl XD

Well for this I can speak for myself (My rank is still on progress as I am switching from handled taiko to osu! taiko), the key is analysing where you break your combo and why. Almost all maps are different in term of pattern and you may have issue FC a mere 3* while you can fc a 4.5* in the same time. That's why I have three different approache :

- Speed : You cannot FC the map either because the BPM is to high or because there is a not rush that you can't input in time.

Find a map with the same speed but with less notes so you can practice your speed. By increasing your overall input speed you should be able to fix this issue (however, beware of the stamina issue).

- Pattern : There is a pattern you have trouble with. If the map has this pattern you will fail on it. For myself it used to be dkddd

You can either follow a training guide (Like this awesome one : https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/175867&start=0) or find a map with a lower AR or a slower BPM. Analyze the combo, practice it, master it, input it, fc the map.

- Stamina : The map is simply draining you and you make "stupid" mistake like inputing a d instead of a k on a simple pattern or you simply cannot keep up with both the speed and the pattern (think ddk kdd dkk kdd. mixed-triplet can be exhausting both physically and morally as you need to read them instead of just ddd or kkk ).

Practice is the only way. I would recommend to play easier map with a longer time (if you do mostly 2minutes, try fc a 4/5 minutes to improve your stamina). I strongly recommend this map for building stamina (Oni https://osu.ppy.sh/s/304999)

Of course there are other issues that can truly bother, such as reading the map due to an excessive high AR but it may not be your biggest concern yet :)
Do not hesitate to ask in-game, we could share some tips.

My kinda main problem is that after the pattern I suddenly become panic and miss the easy notes instead. =__="

For example if I play ddkkddkkd ddk I usually become shocked for a while then I start to read the next pattern and then I failed the ddk.

I'm at rank 6446 and STILL haven't even done any hand switching technique yet. Cereally. -__-" (well except some easy ddkkddkk kdddkdddk etc.)

Thank you for you advice~!

Generally I have this feeling when I sucessfull input a combo that I was usually not able to input. The latest being dkddk. I believe that the only way not to be surprised or shocked anymore is to accept the fact that it went through haha. But still easier said than done...

For the hand switching I can't tell much as I play with a controller. I have less speed than on keyboard, but the feel is better imo by gripping the controller instead of laying my fingers on a keyboard.

Even at my rank I barely do any hand-switching.
One thing I'd say is that just keep improving and eventually you'll be able to get there.

That's kinda why I fail the next stream XD

I try to accept that I actually pass through the dkkkdkkkdkkkddkkddkkdkdkkd and then I forgot to look at the next one. Lawl that's why I still suck. XD

What do you do instead when you see a very long stream like above?

I'm practicing on hand-switching and the problem is I can't read the notes quickly as it should -__-"

Ps: For basic notes I don't do the hand-switching lawl. Refer to this post I just kinda did when I was at #15k hehee

Well for playing with a controller, that is the worst case scenario stream for me as I must altern (in term of hand) right and left AND colors (kat/don) at high speed with heavy modulation in the middle. For now its systematic miss upon pattern change ^^

I use to find it easier to reed note and fc with hard rock in 4-5 star map, this is how i able to learn playing hard pattern note

Same as me! But at least in that case I could separate the pattern dkkk and ddkk and other stuffs. Some arbitrary, non-trivial patterns are impossible for me right now. XD

I also find it easy to read notes, but not when I try to play it. -__-"

I do feel your pain in the way I'm at 3,093 and it's dificult for me to FC 4.9+ maps...

I've always found that if my stamina decreases my tapping and reflex becomes more accurate-I really don't know why. (Unless the map is too long, like a 7 minute Demetori map, then I'll start to fall apart.) Increasing stamina does help though, I recommend seeing (if you can handle them) Climbb's Taiko Oni on Jinsei Reset Button, and on Tokyo Teddy Bear. (Jinsei is 4.63, Tokyo Teddy is 4.72.) They stick to 1/4 at a bit more extreme tempo (200-205 BPM) and are abour 3 minutes in length. (:

My speed grasp extends comfortably to about 220 BPM, but extends to the point where I don't get a C up to 240 BPM. That's all about (to me) learning the easiest way to alternate hands and get the pattern. I'm nowhere near using full alternation, however I found it to be greatly useful 8,000 ranks ago... you gotta work up there though. With speed, try using shorter maps maps no longer than 2:00 or 2:30, and with BPM no slower than about 190. BPM above 230 drains my stamina much more quickly then 220; but I'm still working on many minor Taiko issues at the moment.

As for patterns, if you still don't alternate much, I STRONGLY recommend learning how to use the opposite hand to assist in Taiko. I switched off of single-tapping back in rank 20,000. It was very beneficial, especially in working my speed up.

But as for your shock of hitting patterns? I've been there. You'll evantually hit harder patterns, I always thought about the higher patterns in WereOni on Shuffle Heaven and was like this pattern is nowhere near as hard... but it's easier to think about then to do it.

Best of luck, anymore questions then dont be afraid to ask! (:

When I started toh play taiko I found it rather easy untill I was going to play harder maps around 4 stars, I was stuck there for a really long time because I couldn´t do the patterns and my hands are actually really slow, so I slowly started to alternate between my hands and I suddenly could play a lot fhaster maps, as for the patterns I just kept practising them in editor or halftime.
I tried the alternative hand but didn't work quite well ;/

I had to memorize what keys do I need to press. That will help me for a while until the sequence is arbitrary and I don't get to remember every single sequences possible lol.

I don't know any other beatmaps that I can practice without memorize anymore.

ps. Normally with 1/4 notes I still can play one-handed and some 3plets I can use both 2 fingers of my right hand like ddk and kkd I did xcv and zvc XD

Thanks for your help ^_^

Yes, of course using the alternative hand will feel weird. When I first started using my left hand to help, my right hand always wanted to hit the pattern with it, which always threw me off.

Although it is very possible to single tap and hit triplets such as ddk, kdd, kdk, dkd, kkd, or dkk, as you get into simple five note rhythms such as dddkk, or kkddk, it will become a huge problem especially in higher tempos as I mentioned.

Try to work up your alternative hand like it's never seen Taiko before. Use those easier difficulties and try to get it feeling comfortable. Work with Futsuu and Muzukaahii difficulties. You'll get there, trust me.
